That's his cap number for 2010. Highest on the team (Brady and Thomas are close behind).

Does his performance in 2008 and 2009 warrant the Pats paying him that in the final year of his contract? If they release him, it will save about $6M off the "cap." (there probably won't be one)

I think he retires. He's old and wearing down. Not sure he wants to put up with another year of football during a rebuilding time. But he's close to a lot of records, so mayb ehe does. Maybe he'll get a trade or something.

Let's ask the right question. Is Moss worth $6.4M for his services in 2010, if 2010 is a no-cap year?

My answer is 100% "yes". If you were to plan to cut Moss, we would have almost nothing but youngsters, IR hopes , and possible free agent saviours going into 2010.

If no cap, don't think it matters. We need him for next season given the WR situation. However unless he plans on signing a new deal worth half as much the yearly average as this one it's probably his last season here. Things were much better when we concentrated on defense and a deeper, less expensive WR set. Love the guy but he has what, 5 catches in 4 playoff games? You don't win titles by relying on your pass attack to carry you.

Hate to see him go but unless the Pats know something we don't (i.e. Moss has been playing injured) I don't think you can justify that salary.

    No Jersey Selected

Yes he is. The real question should be, "are we capable of bringing in a WR3 that can beat single coverage?"

I don't really see where any WR is worth that kind of money. The league has changed and it's better to have 3 $5 million a year receivers than to have an $11 million and a $4 million.

However ... if we only save $6 million by cutting him then the question becomes is there a $6 million dollar receiver available that is better than the $11 million that we have ... so no we keep him.

I started a Moss thread before because I think his knees and back are getting the best of him ... but what do I know ... I'm not a doctor.

Without Moss, you really are going to depend on these wide receivers next year:

    Aiken
    Edelman
    Stanback
    Tate

    Tell me it isn't so?

I'd rather see three "B" receivers than an "A+" and two "C-".

Not a knock on Moss, just how I view the salary cap nowadays.

From what I've heard he's been injured a good amount of this year, but when aren't players banged up?

If there is no cap then i think you have to keep him, but if we were able to get a favorable trade I would be really tempted to pull the trigger if i were in charge

The salary cap is totally irrelevant. We are talking about cutting Moss is a no-cap year to save $6.4M of 2010 cash.

Bingo.......... If we have a #2 and #3........ Moss will have a great year next year.

If he's the only guy out there, then no, he probably won't be.

Obviously you don't let go of Moss unless you know for a fact that your gonna be able to get some really good WRs to fill the void in the offseason, cause our recievers without welker AND moss now...well its scary to think about

A wide receiver that ranks 5th in yards and 1st in touchdowns, or save 6 million, you decide.......

Would anyone like to guess on how many TD passes Moss would have if we acquired a true #2 receiver and perhaps even a #4 receiver? Welker/Edelman can be counted on to fill the slot receiver position.

    what cap ?

Who is going to replace a first ball HOF and who is going to give you 1400 yrds and around 14 TD ?.

He is older and how about lineing up 2 quality WR with him and use him effectively.

Do you really expect him to keep putting up those numbers? He'll be 33 with a bad back. He missed countless practices this year for rest. He faded when pressured by defenses or in big games, especially those in cold weather. He was in need of constant monitoring/nuturing by Brady and Belichick.

Other than the first eight weeks of 2007, I don't see where he has been worth the money or the trouble.

If Edelman is our number 4 and Aiken is our number 5 then we are in good shape. We cannot bank on Tate or Welker next year. Moss needs to be the #2 at most. If Edelman and Aiken are our #2 and #3 receivers well then we'll be who we think we are next year again.

As far as Stanback is concerned ... he sucks and it's not even close a 4.57 guy who looks like a 4.7.

We need 2 new receivers next year ... one of them needs to be a #1.
