Not sure what Michelle or barack were thinking here but this was a big mistake. Keep the kids out of politics except to wave once in a while. Kids don't need this and the blogs may intensify now. It will and may be petty but politics is often petty. A political statement by a pre-teen ... beautiful Michelle ... real bright. Trig & Sarah Palin became fair game according to the left ... the question is this:

Is Malia Obama now fodder for the media?

Is it a peace shirt or a nuclear disarmament t-shirt ... either way bad move by Pres.

Watch them blame the designer, the person who picks their clothes, the media for covering the kids etc.

If they start parading her around like that there are plenty of Reporters who will go after her and they should, we have to remember Obama is just another politician he isn't "GOD"

It is what it is ... anyways ... kids should be left out of that crap until they are old enough to air their own views on the world.

She has made herself fair game by making a political statement. It's too bad but you don't get a freebee just because you're young. If you get into the game, you're in the game.

this has already been out and about........obamans want to use the kids as publicity stunts, but the moment they are done, they stuff them back in the closet.......the moment the admin uses them for publicity, they are fair game until they are no longer the first family

Saw that the other day, not sure of the context, was it picked by her parents, did she choose it or was it provided by J. Crew.. she is 11 years old and probably apolitical, this is probably a yuppie thing.. is she fair game?? No if and when she is elected to something she will be then.. let her enjoy her youth.

So would it be ok now for Letterman to make this into a Spitzer joke next time they go to New york?

When the parents put the kids in the spotlight and use them for the "slobber effect" then the kids are fair game, the Clintons learned this the hard way, news is news, don't blame the kid for this, don't blame the press, the blame lies with President Jug Ears.

Yeah it's a reach for two reasons. The kid's what 11? Giving letterman the benefit of the doubt Bristol was 18 so reach ends there.....or starts there depending how you want to look at it. Somewhere in Letterman’s thought process he thought he could link Spitzer's reputation to go after hookers to going after Bristol... now that's a reach. This somehow was all deserved even if Letterman was wrong because Sarah paraded her kids on stage and Bristol put herself in the limelight for going public with her People interview.

Now we have an Obama kid making an apparent political statement with a shirt. Is she now fair game for jokes that inappropriately compare her to more seedy types of people? Of course not. And yes it's a real reach to think that any comedian would ever joke about Obama's kids unless it was just some innocent one. Sadly, Palin's kids are fair game to the same comedians for whatever hateful, hurtful jokes they can come up with. There is a double standard.

Kids are off limits! She's 11 years old. Leave her alone. Rip her dad to shreds if you like, but not the kids.

Think the whole thing is bigger than necessary, peace signs are relatively benign now in this country.. in other countries it means something different...

Someone will post a comment on whether or not the Obama's are good parents.. it is nothing.

11 year old kids get a pass, let them be kids... next thing you know some idiot reporter will want to interview them on something of significance...

She's making a political statement, she's choosing to enter the arena. It sucks but it is what it is. It's no different than wearing a pro choice shirt, if you make a public political statement you take the good and bad with it. Shame on her parents for using her as a prop, though, whether it was her choice or not.
