Is it worth it to stick with Galloway?

I did not see this. I wish I had DVR so I could review..

Also Brady missed a wide open Galloway on a 3rd down play where he duck under Shaun Ellis rolled to the left with no pressure on him and threw wide to the left with no one around him or Galloway which would have put the Patriots in field goal range. The other play they showed on NBC's Football America that was broke down by Rodney and Tony Dungy was the 3rd down play with about 5 mins. to go in the game on the second to last drive were Brady drifts into the pressure from the left immediately and throws the ball to far to the inside and low on what looked to be an out pattern since Joey broke to the outside and was open and the corner was playing to the inside.

Understood.

However, the production I wish to recognize has less to do with stats and more to do with game-changing factors. Is he taking pressure off Moss? Is he opening up space for the other receivers? Are teams respecting him enough to alter their defense?

It's true that it's too early to tell, but so far I am not seeing the game-changes.

Also it is clear the frustration between Brady and Galloway on the field is still there and this naturally doesn't show up in the stats. It seems as if he wants Galloway to get in and out of his breaks faster and more crisp. It may be that Galloway is not used to the precise timing of the routes run in the NE system. He has depended on his straight-line speed for his bread and butter, this is true, but for some reason in NE, this has not been happening.
Hard to change the game when the "team" is shooting itself in the foot.

I reckon plenty of people will be looking foolish in a few weeks time.

Galloway is a talented vereran WR - there are plenty of issues on offense that are bigger than his early struggles - Brady's confidence/timing and the general playcalling.

I guess its symptomatic of a FF generation, one from a Patriots point of view that has been horribly spoilt, that expect results...and they want them NOW d%#*!@t!

There is still plenty of chemistry to be worked on, of course and Brady has his own issues at this point - Gaffney had a supremely confident QB throwing him the ball.

Galloway is a game breaker and he'll prove this consistently by the end of the year.

Absolutely it is worth it to stick with Galloway. He's the only receiver besides Moss on the roster who can threaten the defense vertically.[/B If Galloway can make a couple of big plays this season, it will prevent the safety(s) from shading to Moss on every play. Galloway deserves more than 2 games before he's written off as a bad fit, too old, a bust, or anything else. Edelman, although a rookie who was playing QB last year, also has had his struggles: he was targeted 16 times last week and came away with 8 catches. That's not exactly lighting the world on fire when everything is a short or intermediate route. I think both Joey and Julian deserve more time to adapt. If we don't give it to them, who do we plug in? Unless the Patriots want to bring in Reche Caldwell, their are no WR's familiar with the Patriots offense that are available right now.

I agree with both of these posts. If Galloway makes 0 catches, he is still a vertical threat who stretches the field and keeps defenses honest. Properly used, he is a terrific weapon and complement to Moss and Welker. I see Brandon Tate as a young version of Galloway and probably replacing him next year given age and contract, but it's not certain he will be ready this year or that he will pick things up. Galloway has been open a lot - TB has missed him several times, and has not really taken advantage of his vertical threat capability. A couple of big catches will cause people to change their tune, and keep defenses honest.

No brainer.

It actuially might be harder as one poster pointed out to relearn a few things...I don't think it is easy..so time is needed..and he was better..give him time.
I keep hearing about Gaffney and how he was..it took him awhile to catch on..and that will be the same as Galloway...

That is one of the $64 questions. I say give him another game or two, and if he doesn't cut the mustard, you bust a move with Nunn. From these untrained eyes, Nunn looked good in the preseason.

We haven't even tried to exploit Galloway's vertical capability yet.

I'd like to see the first series of the Falcons game feature a rerun of the Brady-to-Branch bomb from the 2004 AFCCG - play action pass with Galloway going deep. Atlanta's CBs are vulnerable, Galloway should be able to get separation. If we connect, game over. Even if they don't connect, it will keep the secondary honest all day.

..

Compare this with Terrence Nunn and/or Brandon Tate, both of who would probably take some time to fit into the system, but who have their entire career ahead of them.

I tend to agree. I would rather see Nunn get the opportunities.
He can't do much worst. If Nunn impresses while on the PS he
might get a shot.

Galloway's not the problem ..... Brady is.

Consider this article by Reiss:

Mike Reiss' blog - Galloway still learning Patriots' offense - ESPN Boston

Where he discusses how it takes quite some time to fit into the Patriot's system.

Now my issue with this is Galloway is 37 years old. Just how much time do you give him to fit in a system until he decides to hang up his cleats?

Yes, it is worth it. Remember is 2006 when the team and Brady worked all year coaching up Caldwell? but then again in the biggest game of the year he had two brutal drops... let me think about it some more.

Personally I think Joey is all washed up, but if they can use him over the top a few times this year it will help stretch out the defense.

Galloway's not the problem ..... Brady is.

This is kind of true. Sure, Galloway has had a couple drops and may have run a route a little different than Brady expected and that is on him. However, it seems to me that Brady isn't used to Galloway's speed and is always throwing him the ball a little late or behind.

Brady is out of synch with all of his receivers thus far but, yes, Galloway deserves some of the blame though not near the amount that many are giving him.

All will be fine once Brady's rustiness wears off however. Then watch out.

It should be noted that Brady under threw Galloway badly against the Jets when he had the CB beat - and he also had the ball thrown at his feet on more than one occasion.

This was my thought too. If Brady leads him a bit (can't remember if he was pressured on that play or just missed it, but still), Galloway has a long TD and his speed is being praised.

Give it time, the whole offense is out of sync right now, not just Galloway.

I say give him at least 2 more games and see how it pans out. If he ever gets on same page with TB, two vertical threats of Moss and Galloway with Welker and Edelman underneath, it'll be happy times again~!

We'll up this thread in week 8.

I'd leave it be until Tate becomes eligible. Then you have Nunn and Tate as replacement options if he's not panning out.

Personally, I think he won't get hurt and might end up having a career season.

He has sucked so far, but it is too early to cut him.

Absolutely not. Keep him in there. The guy had a shot at a 100 yard receiving, 1 TD day this past Sunday and missed it on an overthrow. You can tell that he's beginning to grasp it. Until Tate becomes healthy, he is the BEST #2 option (aside from Welker who is actually the #3 or slot receiver, but #2 in production on this team since 2007) to put on the other side of Moss. When Galloway fully grasps this system, he could scary. Imagine him and Moss on the outside with Welker and Edelman patrolling the middle of the field.

And for those who believe that they will see Tate this season... don't count on it.

Tate doesn't have Galloway's speed, he was projected as a 4.5/40 man coming out. Woicik and Nash may consistently get him down in the 4.4s when healthy, which may be a good thing because so many burners seem unable to adapt to route running after a career running away from everybody.

Hard to tell what his 40 time would be with an ACL injury, but given that he was a prolific return specialist and considered a threat to go all the way every time he touched the ball, I would expect something better than 4.5 speed. But we'll find out eventually.

Assuming Tate picks up the playbook, learns the system, adapts, works hard, and heals from his injury (i.e., assuming he's not another Chad Jackson), he sounds like a perfect #2 WR next to Moss as the #1 and Welker in the slot. I assume he is the eventual heir to Galloway until proven otherwise.

Galloway is going to be awesome for us this season. He ran his routes well and looked really sharp against the Jets, something we can't say about anybody else. One dropped pass is nothing. With Welker back in this offense will rock.
