Oh...CNN just had a poll asking if people approve of BP's handeling of the spill

    24% said they APPROVE?

I want to kick 24% of CNN viewers in the face.

Well, they have not come out and said "it failed" yet so there is hope and pray.

Someone on CNN just stated that if Top Kill was not working they would have started Junk Shot already. Lets hope that's true as well.

Latest from CNN is that that are restarting the process...

The opptimistic part of me thinks they saw results and want to ensure it works so they are really going at it.

The other side of me thinks they are just trying to "try again" so they can get into Memorial day weekend and hope the news cycle gives them a break.

The news says some is coming out of smaller holes but they have stopped a lot of it.

Why do you say this? What evidence do you have?
To the OP. Thanks for the link. Keeping my fingers crossed.
This has to be the worst disaster in oil drilling history.

My understanding was (as of this morning,) "if this does not work," the next approach would be the relief wells, which are months away. So take what's out there now, and triple it.

Now that Top Fail has failed, we hear that BP is "readying another approach." Pardon my skepticism, but if the relief wells work in a number of months, I'll be surprised.

It's begun to look like whatever's down there, is coming up here.

How come I haven't heard "drill baby drill" lately?

Eh well. Just a matter of time until they start drilling the relief wells:

The teabaggers will start chanting "drill baby drill" again, and - after the whole damn gulf of mexico is fouled beyond recognition - their friends the nice warm and cuddly BP execs will finally get a grip on this mess.

Then we get to hear about how it was a damn good thing they had the drilling technology to stop the flow.

    Mark my fu(king words.

    Wind. Fu(king. Mills. Goddammit.

So, if there's a $75mm cap on BP's 3rd party liability, anybody know whether that law means that legitimate plaintiffs affected by thatcap are instead compensated by the govt (ie, we are subsidizing BP) or if they're just screwed (ie, they are subsidizing BP)

since it's increasingly looking like negligence or gross negligence on the part of BP and/or their subs, I'm hoping that perhaps that reg doesn't apply.

If the $75M figure holds for BP - an obscenity waiting to happen, finally coming to fruition - I don't think there's any "full faith and credit" clause behind the oil industry.

There is however the political reality of saying "you will not be forgotten."

So yeah, it looks like we'll all share the pain of BP's liability, unless of course BP is made to be responsible for their ineptitude. They made the profits when times were good. They pay the bill when they screw up. Sounds right to me.

Something tells me that the $75M cap will be dismantled whatever the outcome. I hope so. As to this particular case, hopefully there is one or another exception (I heard there's some provision in the Clean Water Act?) that makes the $75M cap moot.

Windmills are great but they'll have to be put in the poor peoples neighborhoods say like So Central LA, they'd never allow them in Beverly Hills, the Kennedys want no part of them at least not "Near Them".

San Francisco would be a good spot for some so would Harvard Sq.

Another thing this hammers home for me is how much govt regulation, across industries, seems to focus on the trivial, rather than protectng against the true risks that are out there.
