Well are they? Its both parties. Wouldn't think that the ultra left would be as bad as the ultra right. After all the ultra left are suppose to be the educated elite.

Is Congress getting dumber? | The Upshot - Yahoo! News

Think members of Congress act like a bunch of high school students? You might be on to something. A recent study from the Sunlight Foundation found that members of Congress tend to speak at about a 10th-grade level.

    No Jersey Selected

Yes they are and they are because for one, we are; the people, and B, because we allow it by demanding so little of the people who have some huge responsibilities to us all.

However, didnt Mrs mention with some article evidence discussing the idea that by speaking and writing at a "lower" grade level resulted in more effective communication or something along those lines (I could completely be mis remembering this).

I've been pondering this ever since the Clinton administration. There always seems to be this "need for a correction" a couple of years after a President takes office. What I think happens is people simply vote for the opposition party of the President. That means lots of unqualified bozo's who happen to be in the other party remove the other incumbent bozo's that just might be starting to get the hang of it.

Longer sentences and words with more syllables don't point to a more educated person. An educated person crafts his or her speech to whatever audience they are speaking to. When Obama does his stump speech here in Boston he uses longer words and longer sentences. When he goes to Texas he changes things. That doesn't mean he gets dumber on the flight to Texas. Lets just say that I'm sure you know what's actually happening if you're from around here...

It's because of the 24-hour news blanket that infiltrates the tiniest cracks of American politics. You would have to be an idiot, unconcerned for the welfare of your family and your own self-respect to run for Congress. If by chance you are intelligent and win your election, you will have to behave like a petulent child and sacrifice your own set of values (assuming you have any) for the sake of partisan bulls#!t and collecting money for re-election.

It's no wonder why the average IQ of Congress is dropping. We're in trouble.

No, he just talks dumber to be understood.

Talking and acting dumb as a means of pandering was the shrub's tactic.

Think you are overreacting here, it is what politicians do, when Romney speaks to the christian caucuses his content and tone is different then when he speaks to a group of businessmen. It akin to talking to a group of teenagers then talking to a group from wall street, different audience, different needs, different speech.

It is what happens in American Politics.. politicians pander.
