Read about how great the Colts run game is averaging 140 yards a game so the edge goes to the Colts when the Patriots defense is giving up 84ish yards per game.

Now the Patriots who average a whopping 4 yards less per game at 136 the matchup is called even in regards to going against the Colts defense who is giving up 107 per game.

    Dumb a$$es.

This is a ****ing joke. The Special Teams units are even? Pats run defense vs. Colts run offense is even? I know it is an Indy site, but cmon....

To be fair, they are homers. It's only Boston media that consistently denegrates any success the hometown team may have (except for the Red Sox).

OK, so the Indianapolis newspaper gives the Colts one advantage and the Patriots one advantage and everything else even. That puts the Indianapolis newspaper giving neither team the edge. I take it you want them to favor the Patriots? It's the regular season most hyped game of the year and you think they are going to pick the Patriots?

Well, the Colts have the fifth ranked rushing offense and the Pats have the 9th ranked rush defense. So I don't have a problem with them ranking the Pats and Colts even in this category.

I haven't really watched enough Indy games to know about their special teams.

IMO, ST's is the major gaffe. Our coverage is year in and year out abysmal. Our returns have been better, but I think you have to give edge to Pats. Coaching wise, not sure if they mean the entire staff, or just HC's. I don't think Dungy gets much love here, and BB is obviously a guru, so I can see where you might think edge to Pats. Staff wise, we like our coaches, and 13-0, 9-0, and 7-0 starts would dictate a pretty decent staff of competent coaches.

I think it dictates more a pretty decent, competent quarterback. Or, maybe a little more than that. I think Dungy and pals are overrated because Peyton is so good. ;)

OK now switch, The Patriots vs. the Colts run D. Why is that matchup EVEN? Patriots average 136 per game and Colts defense gives up 107. Colts average 140 per game Patriots defense gives up 87. How can they favor the Colts then call Patriots run O vs. Colts run D even?

The colts rushing attack has faced rushing defenses that rank:
10, 1, 20, 32, 22, 15, and 19. This averages to a 17th ranked rush defense. While they have faced the 1st ranked rush defense (Tenn.), they have also faced the last ranked rush Defense (Broncos).

The Patriots run defense has faced rushing offenses that rank:
    24, 12, 20, 21, 14, 10, 15, and 18. This averages to 16.75. The Patriots have not faced a bottom 5 rushing offense, nor a top 5 offense.

So to say that they are even is false. The patriots have a .25 edge on the Colts in this area. ;)

If we are going to take serious offense at every perceived slight or criticism in the media over this, it's going to be one hell of a long week, and those with blood pressure problems might want to turn away now.

Given this was an Indy newspaper I thought the ratings were more or less OK. Although I must admit I haven't spent a lot of time considering their coverage and return units.

The Colts have yet to face a great offensive team to this point. There are a lot of ways to spin things. The Colts could basically outscore any of the teams they played. The best offensive team they faced was a lousy Titans squad. At least the Patriots handled 3 of the top offensive teams in the Cowboys, Browns and Chargers. So from the other side they can say well the Colts defeated some of the top defensive teams like the Jags and Bucs but CMON! Those are one dimensional teams.

    Sunday can't come soon enough.

What are we going to do? put our scrub beat reporters out on the field against their scrub beat reporters? our paper versus their paper?

I see this game as about as even as it gets, if it makes anyone feel better give slight edges to the Pats in whatever category you want.
    • QB - even
    • Offense - even
    • Overall Defense - even, different styles but same results
    • Coaching - slightest edge to BB (Indy has scored a lot of points and won the last 3 meetings, it is not like Dungy has been out coached in these meetings, it is almost the other way around)
    • Special Teams - slight edge Pats - coverage and return goes to Pats, Punters are even (if there are any punts), Kicker - edge Indy
    • Home field - Edge Indy - Pats play well in a dome but will have to fight crowd noise

I think it will come down to which defense has some gas left at the end.

Homerism, even if it's here, is an ugly disease. It rots the brain. When a brain can only see the side of the coin that it wants to see then it's a broken brain that is convinced of its delusions. We have a president like that.

For the most part we are not seeing our own disease because the team is *that* good. But if the team is going to get beaten, then nobody here will see it coming.

So bet the farm on the Colts this week.

Well, on second thought ...... maybe a good case of homerism could save me some money on that one.

After we blowout the Colts, the media will continue to insist that we haven't played a good team yet. Well, from a Patriots standpoint, I guess thats a true statement. If the Patriots are called "good" then everyone else, including, the Colts must be bad, aweful. So I guess only the greatest teams of all time are considered "good".

This article only proves the lack of football knowledge over at the Indy Star newspaper.

The New England Patriots gashed one of the best defenses in the NFL this past weekend and to call the Patriots rush offense versus the Colts rush defense even is a joke. The Patriots rushed for 152 yards against the Washington Redskins. The Redskins had ranked fifth in the NFL against the run, allowing just 80.7 yards per game.

As evident this season, the Colts defense has yet to face a pass offense that is even worthy of any respect whatsoever, thus concentrating solely on stopping the run.

To call special teams even is even a bigger joke. The special teams coverage units for the Colts are one of the worst in the NFL. To call the kickoff return units even is a cold slap in face to the New England Patriots team, especially considering the New England Patriots have returned two kickoffs for touchdowns this season. Notice how Phillip B. Wilson completely ignores the punt return units altogether which in itself is an insult to Wes Welker.

In summary, if I were nice the "B" in Phillip B. Wilson's name would stand for BIAS, but BONEHEAD is more applicable.

Ah, I think I see your problem. You think you are reading non fiction, when in reality it's a fiction. And everyone that has taken any literature courses knows, fiction always has some basis in fact, but don't let the facts get in your way of writing good fiction.
