Nice bag - ugly shoes, though.

"Alpha male" may have a different meaning in a young demo that is almost 60% male.

I'm pretty sure that the term "alpha male" means different things right here in the good old USofA.

A woman's idea of an alpha male is probably considerably different than a man's idea of one.

We have three cats. 2 huge Toms - both about 6 years old and both pushing 20 pounds. The third is a runt of the litter female who's 2 years old and barely 5 pounds. If they're standing on all fours she can practically walk underneath them without having to lower her head she's that much smaller than they are.

    Guess who's Alpha-Cat?

    I can guess.

My parents have a female abyssinian. That chick is an absolute assassin. She even catches squirrels.

I take it you haven't seen "The Hangover"...

    It is disturbing, but funny.

I think I might have...is that the one where they end up with a small child somehow?

I vaguely remember something like that - MrP and my son made me watch it one night.

I must admit, I don't readily understand male humor.

    Ok, now that's funny!! LOL

Seriously, though, I think there is a disconnect between male and female humor. MrP and I agree on almost everything, we really do, but not on what's funny. He tends to like British humor, which I readily admit I do NOT understand or very visual things. I, on the other hand, like subtle humor or irony much more than I like slapstick or really easy humor. The one thing we do agree on is cynicism and sarcasm as usually being very humorous (if done correctly, of course.)

It's been my experience, based on a lifetime of raising boys and working with men, that most men tend to like very basic humor much more than women do. Movies like "Hangover" tend to bear me out, I think.

I don't know if you ever saw a movie called Boondock Saints, which was not really a comedy, but I absolutely loved the humorous parts in it - up to and including the killing of the cat. (Which, normally, I would not find even the least bit funny, but it was so unexpected and so hideously violent that I made an exception.) Mr.P thought it was funny, but not nearly as funny as I did, I don't think.

But I would much prefer that movie as a comedy to Hangover.

    I'll check it out.

RE: British Humor. My wife can't stand Monty Python (which I love), but my daughter loves it. To make it more confusing, my son-in-law did not appreciate "The Holy Grail" when she shared it with him.

Since when were the Chinese something to emulate?

I guess they're not, considering they're copying all things Western.
