Peyton Manning has only been sacked 5 times, the second least of any starting QB (Brees--4). Can we get to him?

Yes. But will you?

One of the reasons why Peyton has been sacked so few times is that he is happy to hand off the ball to our RBs when the defense is expecting us to pass.

It will be interesting to see if he feels the need to air it out on Sunday. My guess is if we can get a lead early, it will be a lot of Joseph Addai runs all day.

But to answer your question, yes, you can get to him, you've done it before.

Ugoh will be playing. He was hurt last week. Might linger. That back-up is trash.
We got to him last year while Big Sey rode the pine with an injury.

Sacks arent the issue. If we expect to win because of sacking Manning 6 times, we will be disappointed.
Quite the opposite, BB will take advantage of this stat.
The reason for so few sacks isnt because no one gets any pressure, its because Manning will check down vs pressure. The key is bringing enough pressure to make him throw early, not to sack him, then to play well in underneath coverage, and TACKLE WELL.
On top of that, if we disguise what we are playing underneath, it can create opportunities.
I expect we get 2 Ints, and we do not get sacks until after we have opened up a lead and Manning is no longer patient to check down.
Manning really is not the same QB he was 3-4 years ago. He has gotten better in many ways, but there are also ways to use how he has changed to our favor. If we play the way I expect us to on D, we will need to tackle well after the catch, and should see a lot of cases of 3rd down completions that are not sufficient for the first down. One of the tricks in stopping Indys O is recognizing that you can dictate checkdowns, but they have been very successful getting missed tackles after the checkdown to convert.

cant call it an important stat...brees was sacked less...and look at this teams record

also Indy's rookies get owned this week...and that means their OL and their DT

Brady has been sacked at a little higher rate (8 sacks in about 30 more attempts).

But the defense also plays a role.

The Colts sack the QB at a rate of 5.2%.
The Patriots sack the QB at a rate of 8.4%.

If Seymour is back, the Colts will be going up against the best D-Line in the league.

I think the Patriots WILL be able to get after Peyton without crating excessive holes for the run game and pass defense. (We'll create some holes, and surrender some points, but they will be more than offset by the pressure we get causing inaccurate throws, interceptions and lost downfield opportunities. Sacks are a bonus, but not really the point. Rattling Peyton with four or fewer rushers is the point).

You got your answer if you saw the second Adaii TD...Jeff (what? me holding?) Saturday had a WWF hold on the Panther defender. Are the flags still sewn in the refs pockets during line play?

Seymour or Ty will have 1 sack
Jarvis Green will have 1 sack
and last but not least Rodney Harrison will burn Addai for the sack that ends Payaton's career.:violent:
