Immediate impact pass rush specialist?

It occurs to me that there may, indeed, be an "immediate impact pass rush specialist" in this draft. He's just not an OLB.

What is Cameron Jordan if not a rich man's Jarvis Green?

I love him at 17. Not sure about a trade up scenario though.

Both Jordan and Watt seem to be fine choices. One should be available.

Of course, much depends on how much Belichick thinks that we need an OT.

You do realize that isn't exactly a favorable comparison, right? Jarvis Green was a 4th round pick who was an excellent role player for the Pats but would never be able to start on our team. If that's what you're saying we get with Jordan for our 1st round pick, I've got to say Thanks but no thanks.

I really didn't get to watch Jordan play much at the Senior Bowl but reports are that he looked outstanding. He is a little bit lighter in the pants and shorter than a Richard Seymour though.

Seymour measured in at 6'6 299 lbs I believe at the combine.
Jordan measured in at 6'4 287 lbs at the Senior Bowl. He does make up for the lack of height with long 34.5 inch arms.
In contrast, Matt Light's arms are only 32 7/8 inches long although he is also 6'4.
Light's arm length along with his lack of top athleticism have kept him out of the elite OT group.

Cameron Jordan, Defensive End, California
Height: 6’4⅛
Weight: 287
Arm: 34½
Hand: 11¼

I do believe we will see more impact from a DE selection than a conversion project at OLB. Pats 1st round DL picks generally contribute early. I think BB finds it easier to project college defensive ends who will fit into his defense.

Of the conversion projects, I really wouldn't mind seeing Sam Acho, 6'3 257 lbs out of Texas. Not only is he a very productive player, 8 sacks and 4 forced fumbles each of the past 2 seasons, but he's from a big school program, which BB tend to like. He showed up to play at the Senior Bowl, and considering he has nearly identical measureables to Cunningham, I could see us taking a flyer on Acho in the round 2-3 range.

That's where the "rich man's" part comes in. I don't think Jordan is a classic "starter," but what if he's a role player who could play a few different roles? E.g. what if he's athletic enough to do what Green used to do, plus a little of what Big Willie used do, and a little bit o' Mike Wright, too?

I'm not necessarily sold at #17 either, but it strikes me that a situational rusher who's 6'4" 287 might see more snaps and add more dimensions to the defense than the situational rushers we've discussed at length who are undersized OLBs.

Have never heard that theory of getting a versatile pass rushing specialist DE. Its been either tweener LB's or Massive DE's proposed.

Good stuff.

With our first three picks I want Jordan, who I believe will be an excellent 3-4 defensive end. He will improve the pass rush in the same manner as Seymour did (not to the same extent), using his hands to push the pocket get off blockers and knock down balls.

With one of our next two picks I'd like to see an OLB pass rusher. I was hoping to read through this thread and get a better idea of a 1st round type pass rushing olb. Does anyone have any names for me?

With our last pick I'd like an offensive lineman.

When you mention Jordan in the situational sense, are you referring to him as an elephant role? 2 down player? Every down player?

I'm pretty high on him because of his versatility and motor and the multitude of schemes and looks he can play in. He seem' as smart as they come and sometimes he's able to take over a game. I think we'd have to move up to get him unless some teams soften up and grab QB's early. Tennesse, Dallas and Houston could use a guy like him in their scheme.

Probably my favorite player behind Darreus. Like Quinn too.
