    My letter to the ombudsman:

    Ms. Schreiber:

It's disheartening to see that, despite your previous take on the subject, Gregg Easterbrook is allowed to continue his thoroughly irrational crusade against all things Patriots.

In his first few paragraphs alone he distorts some facts, outright lies about others, and dabbles in character assassination, to boot. Tom Brady, a "smiling sybarite" who is "hiding something?" How does something like that make it past what I assume to be several editors who should know better?

ESPN should be collectively ashamed of itself. Regardless of the teams involved, this type of journalistic McCarthyism should never be tolerated at any institution, let alone at the Worldwide Leader. I don't want to consider that ESPN not only condones but encourages him to continue writing his vitriol just to boost ratings, so to speak. However, with each passing week, it certainly looks more and more like that is the case.

What are the chances that ESPN would consider publishing a reader's response to Easterbrook? If so, I'd seek no compensation whatsoever, only an audience to point out how he has delved so deeply into rhetoric and lies that he can no longer be considered a sports journalist. All I want is an opportunity to set the record straight, because the people who have suffered through Easterbrook's ethical breakdown, yet have remained loyal to ESPN, deserve at least that much.

    Thank you.

Speaking on the publics' behalf is the definition of the ombudsman's job.

Asking her to publish a reader's response is, therefore, essentially asking her to let you do her job.

If she's as conscientious as she seems, she's already drafting her response to Easterbrook. The question is, whether ESPN.com editors will be willing to publish it promptly and prominently, or wait until the usual ombudsman's column is due, and bury it down on the page.

Honestly TMQ is just getting pathetic and more and more irrelevant. At first I thought he just had a misguided view of the situtation. Then I thought he was just trying to drum up site hits with his position. Now I've got to wonder what BB did to his mother or something! :0

Seriously, even most people that think that the pats "cheated" don't hate them the way that Easterbrook does. It is ridiculous.

This isn't a work of journalism. It's an opinion article. Not much an ombudswoman can do about it. So he calls Belichick arrogant and evil. What is she going to say? No, he's humble and good?

I'm tired of idiots and miscreants hiding behind the shield of "opinion". Opinion still colors other's perceptions of a situation, and when combined with supporting "facts" that are in fact lies, it devolves into slander. It's become fashionable for everyone in the media to spout whatever nonsense they wish, then when they are questioned on it, claim it's just an opinion and no one should care that they write in such a fashion. It's also become the death of traditional media, since opinions seem to garner ratings, sadly. Op-ed pieces are fine, but there's still a responsibility to deliver accurate facts to the reader when creating the foundation of the argument for your opinion, and Easterbrook fails miserably in that regard, and THAT is what the ombudsman/woman can audit.

Easterbrook is getting more and more deluded.

This is football games not war retard. I love how he go to an extend on how Pats are evil and Colts are good and then on the next paragraph, he show the cheerleaders of the week...

    A truely dumb journalist......

Easterbrook's irrelevant and I suspect most of his readers skimmed that opening drivel. He's acting like a missionary for the sport that canonized the phrase "winning isn't everything, it's the only thing."

I like your letter, but I don't think it's necessary. I really don't think even Pats haters take this guys seriously anymore. I had to look for three pages of comments on ESPN before I could find one that agreed with Easterbrook and he was just trying to stir things up. It's better to just ignore this guy and not click on his stuff or comment on it IMO.

EVIL always wins over good. Any of you ever read the Bible? I don't want to spoil the ending for you, but Satan throws a 666-yard touchdown pass to Randy Moss for the win!

I just went and read that garbage. The man has lost his mind. I read this board all the time but rarely ever post, and I read all the articles on all the sports sites, but rarely ever respond. I couldn't stop myself this time. I posted what I honestly imagine whenever I hear him babbling on and on about the Patriots. This is my comment...

You know what's creepy? Easterbrook's obsession. I got the heebie jeebies reading this article. I imagine the guy pacing nervously in his house, twitching and babbling to himself, "I will not stop defaming the good name of the Patriots and the Kraft organization until it kills me. How can people be over this? I WANT BELICHICK'S HEAD!!!". I see him outside of Coach Belichick's house in the pitch dark of night, ruffling through the trash, trying to find personal possessions. His family worries more and more as Easterbrook disappears night after night for hours. He always arrives back home, hair mussed, clothes rumpled, smelling of trash, mumbling over and over again, "Belichick, evil... Belichick...I'll get him...Belichick, Belichick, Belichick..." The twitching and drooling is worsening. Fearing for his disappearing sanity, they finally call the funny farm people to come and help him. They burst into his room and find him clutching an old, broken hairbrush in one hand, pulling out strands of hair, as he sticks pins into a homemade cloth doll dressed in a gray hoodie with cutoff sleeves. Easterbrook speaks in tongues as he tries to fight off the men in the white coats. They wrap him in a straightjacket and drive off in an ambulance. The last thing his family hears is a strangled, pained, sobbing and choking "BELICHICK, BRADY...EVIL...DIE PATRIOTS!!" The sobs fade away as the ambulance drives off, and his loved ones ponder where they went wrong.

    Seriously. The guy's a lunatic.

I wrote to the ESPN Ombudsman as well. My letter may borderline on a "threat" but I'm so sick of it, I don't care. Here it is:

"The fact that you have allowed Greg Easterbrook to continue on his anti-Patriots mission has finally gone too far. I will no longer read ESPN online and I just wish I had a subscription to your magazine so I could cancel it.

Greg's most recent "article" etitled, "Colts/Patriots Tilt Shaping as Battle of Good vs. Evil" is the finest piece of biased writing I've ever read. Not only is it biased, but Greg continues to push his anti-Patriots agenda through the platform ESPN provides him...that YOU provide for him.

Yes, I'm a Patriots fan. But many others outside the realm of Patriot nation are growing tired of Mr. Easterbrooks mission.

I believe it is time you cut him off at his knees before someone else does.

    Sincerely,
    Jack XXXXXX"
