ILB help

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My first posting-
Thought I'd throw out some names that are available that might help at ILB.

Ed Hartwell-played in Balt in a 3-4 with A. Thomas
Randall Godfrey/Donnie Edwards-both from SD, both played ILB in a 3-4
DaShon Polk-Houston played ILB when they played a 3-4

MLB's-have not played in a 3-4
Napoleon Harris-Minn.
Rob Morris-Indy
Kawika Mitchell- KC
James Darling-AZ can play all 3 LB spots
Isaiah Kacyvenski-Seattle (Harvard) great special teams-can play all 3 spots
Orlando Huff-AZ
Carlos Polk-SD

Let me know what you think...

Well, Carlos Polk is an OLB more than a MLB. Polk filled in for Merriman when Merriman was out. I have mentioned him as a potential signing before.

Ed Hartwell is interesting, but he'd have to pass a physical and take an incentive laden contract.

James Darling is a special teamer.

You also forgot Antwan Peek, who played in the 3-4 in Houston.

Donnie Edwards hasn't been officially released, to my knowledge.

I believe he has (or will) void the last year of his contract.

I really think we need to fill this void. Tedy isn't what he used to be...

I'd feel a lot better if we picked up another quality ILB in free agency.

We have filled that void, with Mike Vrabel. I don't care if Tedy isn't the same player he used to be, if Tedy Bruschi is your 4th best linebacker, then you have a sick unit.

As for depth, bring back Seau! He can play inside or outside, serving as a super-sub for all 4 LBs. Then we can use the draft to bring in a building block and special teamer.

Very good points he is prolly our 4th best LB while I odnt feel his skills have declinde that much the other 3 are more at their prime. and bringing back seau would be great for the rotation as he has versatility having played outside most of his career and playing well inside last year for us.

I'm certain that Willis, Siler or Harris will be picked somewhere in the Pats ILB scenario. FWIW, my guess is Siler in Round 2...

Yep, Hartwell would need to be signed on incentive basis for it to make sense to me. But just imagine he came cheaply and turned out to be healthy - wow, we'd have one heck of a front seven.

BTW, he'll only be 29 this summer.

Other free agents that should be mentioned are Ken Hamlin and Tank Williams.

Also Kawika Mitchell had a great season for the Chiefs.

Ken Hamlin and Tank Williams were not listed because they are Safties, I only listed LB's. I did forget Brian Simmons, who can plan MLB or OLB. A solid citizen even though he played for Cinn. Note: he visited NO today.

Regarding Antwan Peek, I left him out because he is strictly an outside, pass rushing type that was actually shifted back to his natural DE spot last year when Houston switched to a 4-3. (because of Mario Williams). I was trying to focus on ILB/MLB types.
