Suggs is all but GUARANTEED Franchised by the Ravens so say goodbye to him in another uniform till at least 2009

If he doesn't come to an agreement they are going to trade him even if they franchise him. The newest rumor has the ravens sending suggs to arizona for fitzgerald. I was just talking about the market for that kind of player versus the market for a corner. The "we can sign suggs" ship sailed long ago for me.

Oh, and I vote for the Raiders CB (won't even try to butcher his name). I think he is close to Asante's talent but won't come close to Asante's cost.

Unfortunately, as others stated, there is a good chance he will be franchise tagged. But it's Al Davis, so who knows ...

I say BB takes Lane Kiffin and Al out for dinner and drinks and then slips a little something in thier drinks and brings along a trading contract for them to sign while they are under the influence and a contract that gives our 2008
5th rounder to them for Asomugha :rocker:

We'll bring in veteran linebackers, just not big name big price linebackers; ditto for corners. I look for a passrusher and two corners in our first four picks. Belichick will get at least on corner who he is comfotable with contributing this year. After all Samuel, Gay and Wilson all did fine in their first year.

Every year since I've watched the patriots in 1980, the majority of fans' solution to improve the team is to sign high priced free agents. We rarely make much of a splash. Last year was an exception. Belichick is looking for another Vrabel, who few here knew when we signed him.

Yes I would like to give Woods a shot at more reps. And I do expect either Seau (most likely) or Bruschi to stay.

Also, I expect us to consider Law and Surtain. I recall the day we sloved our corner back issues by picking up O-T-I-S.

So you are happy with the senior citizens at ILB or what is going to become a gaping hole at corner and on the other side is a very erratic Hobbs?

Then either you are expecting a guy off the bottom of the scrap heap to produce instantly in the system or you are expecting a rebuilding stage for the Patriots defense that may interfer with SB 44 hopes.

You can't be serious that you are happy with the ILB situation or soon to be corner spots are you or are you expecting countless studs to come in and start immediately because without a big name FA in either area this team could be in trouble unless a rookie becomes super great and quickly because Bruschi and Seau have seen thier best days and another year probably slows them down even more so.

Without a big name ILB or corner it may not be a pretty 2008,At least from a defensive standpoint unless like I said an NFL rookie stud is born in NE instantly.

OR maybe you are comfortable with Woods and Alexander at the position for depth or even for one to start,I know I am not since I have not seen much from either except on ST.

I understand what you are saying but you are focusing on what BB did in the past and not the last few years,In the past few years things have been a bit different and the Bargain guys did not produce like they did in the 2001-2004 era - For example Monty Beisel,Chad Brown,Duane Starks,Earthwind Moreland and for the most part Art Hawkins were busts and signings like Otis and Vrabel and Fauria are of the past, not lately.

I just don't think the team can get good bargain basement guys easily like they used too or maybe the talent from this type of player is much rarer anymore or the oposing teams are getting smarter and grabbing these types of guys earlier than they used to leaving the team with not much to choose from but I do know it has been a failure for this team with no names since 2005 with the exception of Seau who has played decent and Welker who I cannot say enough good enough things about I absolutely love Welker more than any 2007 aquisition including Moss.

If you don't want any player with top quality skills then you had better hope for one hell of a draft to keep this team competitive in 2008 or the team is going to need to score lots of points cause the D will suffer without great changes to ILB and Corner (barring Samuel's departure)

Before the Ravens said they were going to tag him, I would have said Terrell Suggs. Asomugha would be my first choice now at least until he gets tagged. But Al Davis has made trades with the Pats over the past two offseason so who knows if he would trade Asomugha for less than market value.

As for Briggs, the guy doesn't want to play in the 3-4 and he is more of a cover-2 LB who rarely work in a 3-4, two-gap system because they rely too much on speed over smart play and power.

Yes, the 49ers are rumored to want to make a hard push for him, but there is no indication Briggs is interested in going to the 49ers. I'm sure if they are willing to pay him Nate Clements type of money, he might revise his thinking about playing in a 3-4. But I think he will have to have a financial incentive to go to a 3-4 team. I doubt the Pats will pay that incentive. Give me a lower priced guy who might fit into the system better like Victor Hobson.

Play the FO and what player you would put on top of your list (of course some of the key guys we have are unsigned right now but guess who will be gone) and then make your pick figuring the hole in that area to fill or a player you want released and replaced by.

Who is "Michael Boley"?

It still wouldn't be the worst we've ripped off the Raiders in the past year, so it could work. As for the original question: probably Ashomunga, though Dansby would be great in the Pats' defense.

Keep dreaming...

There will never be an end of good free agents that never had a chance to start.

Never.

You had no idea that Vrabel was going to be as good as he is now.

No one did.

Yeah, he was never hardly used as a Steeler, and he had potential, but no one knew that he would pan out as well as he did.

There will always be a few players that breakout with a new chance.

I'd take Dansby. He's big, has some experience of the 3-4 and displays the sort of versitility the Pats need at linebacker.

Re-sign Samuel. That should be priority #1. He is looking at 8 years 80 million range... in 5 years that contract will look like a bargain.

Hi all
I will probably hear the dumb broad bit for this but here goes.

This is our schedule:

Home games
Bills 7-9 (w)
Broncos 7-9 (w)
Cardinals 8-8 (w)
Chiefs 4-12 (w)
Dolphins 1-15 (w)
Jets 4- 12 (w)
Rams 3-13 (w)
Steelers
Road games
Bills 7-9 (w)
Chargers
Colts
Dolphins 1-15 (w)
49ers 6-10 (w)
Jets 4-12 (w)
Raiders 4-12 (w)
Seahawks

12 of the teams we will play had a combined 2007 record of 52 wins and 136 losses.
Yes. Some of those teams will/MAY improve. But we should get (w's) against ALL of them.

Regardless of who is at linebacker. Even harooni. So what? you say. Well I say we put some younger guys in the lineup from the start and 'season' them for 21 weeks. Pre season and regular. By the time SB comes around they will be seasoned vets and get us #4.
I sense some panic on the boards that I don't think is justified. This is the year to train our future. We may never have as easy a schedule again. Forget putting the pressure of another undefeated season on us and our guys. Go for seasoning some kids right now. When we take home Lombardi 43 I guarantee #42 will be avenged. Two in a row always beats one and done.

By the way. Finally put the finishing touch on my work schedule. I will only miss one sox home game. (Fort Myers)

Don't cry poooor babies. They will desert me and spend all summer AND October with you all.
.^_^.

Raiders corner is a great player. I like Hamlin too but if we were to get him it should have been last year, now that we have Merriweather and Sanders were set at safety.

Nnamdi Asomugha the best corner in the NFL right now, he'd actually be worth the money Asante wants. Of course, that's not how we do things, but just throwing it out there.

Even established star quarterbacks such as Brett Favre and Peyton Manning, neither short on confidence or receivers, would not challenge him.

Opposing quarterbacks tested him only 31 times with a mere 10 completions the entire season.

One NFL scout told Pro Football Weekly that Asomugha was thrown at "less than any defender in the last 10 years" in 2007.

The guy from the Raiders. I think he'll come for around the same price as Trufant, but he's got more potential. He would be a great addition and I'm not super impressed with the DB's we drafted since 2003. Jury is still out on Merriweather, but I could live with Ken Hamlin as well.

I stick with the school of thought that Briggs is not the best fit for our system, at least for the price he'd be asking. I really want to see us draft a high round LB. Just once.

give Brandon a chance. He's one of the best safties that Miami's ever had...and remember thats the school of the late Sean Taylor and BB's beloved Ed Reed. We still have a lot of talent at saftey and for Brandon to see the amount of playing time that he did, his first year went fine...he should blossom under BB. Maybe not an immeadiate impact player...but I think well all see why BB chose him next season and into the future. I DEF. think that Oakland's Asomauga ( spelling...sorry if i spelled it wrong ) would be a GREAT fit with the Pats. Hes outstanding. Great size, ball skills...everything.

I wouldn't sign any big name free agents.

Not even Terrell Suggs who is 25? That is who I would want on the Pats. I feel like one of the biggest problem that has been plagueing the Pats has been a consistant pass rush. The pass rush has been very soft the past couple of years. Too many average QB's have had too much time to pick apart the defense. I think we know what the other problem is. Their secondary sucks.

Re-sign Samuel. That should be priority #1. He is looking at 8 years 80 million range... in 5 years that contract will look like a bargain.

I think the Pats need to move on. Samuel is too small to match up with big recievers. The smart money would be to sign that Raiders CB instead. He is 6'2'' and can match up with anyone. The defense needs change. Not a major change, but the Pats need to do something different.

You're right ever since Willie McG. departed. The pass rush just hasn't been the same.
