We have a great improved offense with the addition in 2009 of Brady, Maroney, Taylor, Baker, and Matthews. We should be ahead in lots of game, allowing the defense to be effective as they were in 2007.

We have revamped the secondary. The front seven seems adequate at best. It could be great, or not.

Perhaps if we acquired a top experienced 3-4 front 7 player, this transaction would put us over the top.

But no, it is almost impossible for Belichick to find such a top player who would be able to fit into our defense and immediately be a key player on the defense.

Perhaps we could trade a 2011 first for such a player to put us over the top for 2010 while Brace and Pryor develop.

    ===================

But Belichick is the best. It is more of challenge to win the Super Bowl without such a player. If the player were on the squad, Belichick would probably trade him away.

If we are trading the 2011 first for a 3-4 End, then why trade Seymour?

I'd take Merriman for a first. Without his arrest.

I would trade the 2011 pick for a ball hawking DB.

    #11 Jersey

    :)

But seriously...if you could add any kind of impact player to this team it would be a 3-4 DE? You'd rather upgrade that position than, say, Woods/Burgess, or Alexander, or Galloway, or your choice of CBs? You'd take Seymour over Ware or Polamalu or Fitzgerald or Asomugha?

I'll take the same guy I voted for last year - Ed Reed. Although DeMarcus Ware would be tough to pass up.

If I had an extra 2011 1st and had the choice, there are many areas I might use the pick. Yes, I would take Polamalu or Asomugha before Seymour. I'm less sure about Ware or Fitzgerald.

IMHO, we should jump at the chance to trade the 2011 1st for any of these, including Seymour (and Wilfork who Belichick was also talking about dumping).

I certainly hope that we would if we could.

WHY the EFF would we trade a 2011 1st for a top notch experienced 3-4 front 7 player when it's pretty clear that we'll probably be running a 4-3 as our base nest year.

Your so stuck on who we're losing without paying the least bit of attention as to WHY we are losing them. These are not arbitrary moves you know. The defense is changing, so must the personnel we put in it. I don't think BB felt that having BOTH RS and VW this year is quite as crucial as you do, certainly not compared to what the offer on the table was. Since you don't have any rings, don't mind the rest of us who defer to the one that does. ;)

We clearly got the better end of the Seymour deal in the long run. That's all that matters. I appreciate everything we got out of RS, but as BB say's

"He don't play for us no more".... Time to move on a talk about the players that do.

By the way, I'd say Ware as to the answer to the question.

It's nice to trade for a player like Reed, Palomalu or Ware right now but that's not going to happen. However, a trade for Ware may be possible next off season as he is slated to become a restricted free agent if it's an uncapped year.

But as of right now, I can't think of any realistic trades that can improve the Pats today. However, I think they need to improve their depth at LB.

True, Oakland could win a SB in 2010, or BB could draft Ryan Leaf, but given the law of averages I'd say neither is very likely and We get a very high (top 10) pick, for which BB has a VERY good history at hitting on.

Matt Jones WR- Moss, Jones on the outside Welker Edelman in the middle, and we wouldnt even need a defense

Also I would love a shut down corner or a big playmaking safety

    1.) This season actually counts.

2.) Seymour can still play several productive seasons

3.) That pick is not guaranteed to be a top 5 or top 10 pick, despite all the claims

4.) The odds are that the pick will not be a player as good as Seymour

What! Blasphemy! Of course, Belichick will draft a player better than Seymour.
