they better act now... Mcnabb is out for a while and the thug will prob be starting in 3 weeks..Feely may be resigned... So if the Pats want Feely they should think about signing him tonight.. Not that its a big deal, but I not 100 percent confiedent of Hoyer yet, or this WR turned QB... If the pats want a back up qb and its Feely they better act fast..

I have a feeling this will fuel a discussion about race.

Don't worry I know you didn't mean anything by it, it's just every time I've seen that term used here a big race debate has taken place.

I'd be surprised if the Eagles re-signed Feeley.

First, the Pats won't sign anyone until Tuesday. They want to wait until after they play tomorrow night so that they don't have to guarantee a contract.

Second, if Feeley thinks he has a legitimate shot of signing with the Pats, no way he will sign with the Eagles. Not that he likes the Pats over the Eagles, but he has more job security here. He knows if he can learn the offense fast, he can end up here for the entire year and possibly longer as Brady's back up. He signs with the Eagles, it may be as short as one week with Vick returning week three and McNabb possibly only being out for a week or two.

Personally, I don't see the Pats bringing in any veteran as long-term backup (i.e., beyond 2009).

I think they could very well have one. Let's not go overboard with Hoyer just yet. The guy played well in the last preseason game, but that is a long way from being Brady's primary back up for the long term. He might, but we haven't seen enough to know if he will. All we know is that he was better than O'Connell and Walter.

Either way, Feeley would have more job security than in Philly where he was the fourth QB before he was cut.

Kevin Kolb is not a thug. :p

He is also far likely to be a better QB than Vick or Feely, for that matter.

Who's out there that the Pats would want for more than a year? Heck, it's not even clear that they're willing to offer more than vet minimum salary.

If Feeley catches on, they could keep him more than one year. We are talking a back up QB. There aren't many great back up QBs out there to begin with. If you can find a decent guy who knows your system, you keep him if he is cheap enough.

But that's my point. It's rather difficult to keep a good backup for peanuts. And even if 2010 is uncapped, there's still a practical limit to how much they can pay out in salary.

Colts are paying Sorgi $900K this year and $1.08 million next year.

I said a good backup, not Jim Sorgi.

And the Pats were going to pay Walter vet minimum.

How many good back ups are there out there and how many will be available next year via free agency or a trade? If Feeley or whoever they add is good enough, that might be the best they can get.

Outside of Feeley, there really isnt anyone out there worth looking at. That, and waiting for week 2 (salary for year reason) might be why they havent signed anyone. If they don't pick up Feeley by this Friday, then i think we're sticking with just Hoyer, which i feel is risky.

To be fair, it's not like there's a big sample size to judge Sorgi's play on.

It shouldn't, because in this case by his past actions the word is accurate according to it's original meaning. Which is quite different than calling him that based merely on appearance or character.

Even if a poster thinks Hoyer isn't risky, it would seem that a 3rd QB for insurance is a good idea. There are several on the list that are "worth looking at" This is a team that brought back Vinny! Alos, has Walter been signed?

    No Jersey Selected

I kinda think that if Bill were really interested in signing a vet QB as a legit backup/sub for Brady, then that vet would've been signed shortly after Cassel had been traded.

As of now, however, if Brady is hurt tonight, then we're finished. There is no vet available who can learn the playbook in time to salvage the season, should the unthinkable happen again. So why bother to sign one now?

Unless they were confident/hopeful that O'Connell would take the next step in year two. The Pats did sign Andrew Walter and have another veteran or two in for tryouts prior to signing Walter.
