...just one thought. I don't want to overburden my mind with thoughtS since this is a big game.....and I'm old, ;)

It occurred to me that Monday night is going to be a bit chilly. Nothing much by NE standards, just in the low 30's, high 20's. Still I seem to recall that Senor Franchize isn't exactly in love with our weather. Wasn't the first time he played in the real cold the last time he played in Foxboro?

No one has made mention of it, but Sanchez only played 2 other games besides that, in the cold weather. The first was against a Bengal team who was taking the day off, and that same hapless Bengal team in the Playoffs, where IIRC, he wasn't much of a factor in the win.

So while the weather is "supposed" to be clear, we won't know about the wind until that day. I don't think the "sanchize" likes the cold, and he CERTAINLY doesn't have Tom's experience with bad weather. It might not be much, but its something I haven't heard much about this week....and its something. ;)

BTW- I can't help but notice that there are some OTHER people on this board and in the media, who are NOW lauding, yours truly's favorite CB. Sorry but I just couldn't stop myself. :D

OTOH it is also the first "cold" game for Spikes, Cunningham, Gronkowski, Hernandez and a few of the other young un's.. Mesko also may have had limited cold weather games as well as the college season usually is ending by this weekend.

I get all the news I need from the weather report:

McCourty was a first round draft pick. Should you expect less from a first round draft pick?

Hernandez is from CT and Gronk is from the Buffalo area, so you know he knows about the cold.

Gronkowski and Hernandez were born and raised and played high school football in cold weather. Cunningham was born in NYC, but I don't know how long he stayed there since he played in GA during high school. Either way, the two big weapons will be fine, even if you believe as a rule that a bit of cold weather will have a drastic effect on players.

Who would have thought our Best Offensive pick would be a OG Logan Mankings in the Pioli era? Think of the flameout Offensive picks Graham = didn't live up the First Round billing. Ben Watson = tease; Maroney = Bust! Pioli sucked on the Offensive side of the Ball but hit homeruns on the Defensive side.

The cold weather will affect the quarterback, more than the receivers. Unless there's snow/rain on the ground which changes the traction passrushers/offensive line have to play, Brady and Sanchez will be really the only two people who will have to work to deal with it.

Also, on Mesko, though he didn't punt in the snow or anything regularly, he's played in many cold-weather games at home and on the road in the Big 10.

As for Sanchez, I don't think the cold weather is the issue so much as the wind is. He doesn't have the arm to cut through windy conditions. If it's cold but not windy, I don't expect it to bother him too much.

Looking at the back-to-back Bengals games, both were around 20 degrees, but the regular season game had the wind at 27 mph. Sanchez went 8 for 16 for 63 yards that game. The week after, in the cold again but with winds at 9 mph, he was 12 of 15 for 182 yards and a TD, very respectable numbers for a rookie QB in his first post-season game in a cold-weather game on the road.

Hernandez grew up in Bristol, CT.. He's played in cold weather.

And let's not act like they don't get cold weather in NC or Georgia.. They do.. I can speak from experience.. It's not the blistering 15-20 that it get's in New England, but they get down below zero more often than they like to admit.

Mesko grew up and played High School ball in Ohio.

Of course, high school and college football is generally done by the time temps get that low. Having grown up and lived much of my life on the VA-NC border, the earliest I ever saw temps get below 20F was in late December 2004. It was actually 11F one morning with a powdery dusting of snow. That's pretty rare though. Usually it's mid-40s during the day and lower-30s at night.

Living in cold weather and playing FB in cold weather are two different things.. most High Schools complete their seasons prior to the advent of serious weather, and for these guys they played the college game in the South. Mesko played at Michigan and their season ended on Nov. 21, 2009 at Ohio..

The ball takes on a different dimension.. probably will not make much difference, comments intended to counter the effect on Sanchez...

The Pioli era was when Pioli was gathering information, dialing phones and sharpening pencils for his boss. He was not the decision maker. He was one of the best at making sure the big man had enough pretzels and diet coke to get through 10 straight hours, so the hooded one could work his draft day magic.

While the weather may have an effect on Sanchez, the most obvious negative may be on our replacement place kicker. Maybe some squibs to keep the ball away from Brad Smith on a short field?

He had one other game against the Falcons. About the same conditions he will face Monday except it was a sunny afternoon game (which makes a difference). The San-grenade blew up throwing 3 picks in a game that should have eliminated the Jets from playoff contention (the one time I actually agreed with Rex).

Sanchez played almost all of his college games in California, except a game or two in Arizona or Oregon, where I believe he actually lost. Considering he playing in the AFC East, he hasn't faced too many games where weather was a factor. I mean, even their late Buffalo game last year was in Toronto. That changes now and I imagine Sanchez will be lucky to see the plus side of freezing the rest of the year...

    Foxboro at night
    Meadowlands late afternoon against Fins
    Heinz field late afternoon
    Soldier Field day after Christmas
Meadowlands day after New Years against Bills

Connecticut is still playing high school football and the Buffalo area gets to 30 degrees in mid-October.
