The 2,550 square-kilometre (985 square-mile) block broke off on February 12 or 13 from the Mertz Glacier Tongue, a 160-kilometer spit of floating ice protruding into the Southern Ocean from East Antarctica due south of Melbourne, researchers said.

Some 400 metres (1,300 feet) thick, the iceberg could fill Sydney Harbour more than 100 times over.

Icebergs have been forming and/or breaking off for about tens of millions of years now. I think it is hilarious how people like you believe these things never happened until about 20 years ago

where in my post does it state that I believe icebergs have been falling off for about 20 years?

    Did you read the article?

Did you read what a scientist who has been studying this says about the global heavy water cycle and its relation to planetary weather?

Nahhhhhh...just make up things that I never said and beat your chest...that sounds better!

    Tax-cuts.

Icebergs / glaciers already resting in water are not a problem ... the ocean already reflects their mass. It's the ice that is not in the ocean that when melting causes the water to rise. This one sounds like it's already part of the ocean.

The planet has warmed and cooled throughout its 4 billion or so years of existence. This isn't the first iceberg to break off, and it won't be the last.

That is a lie and you know it. Scientists have studied tree rings to prove that the temperature of the planet Earth was the exact same, year in and year out, for 4 billion years until Ronald Reagan took office. :D

Not to worry. Luxembourg is really small, right?

More ice in the Antarctic, so as the Glaciers & area of ice grows you will get more icebergs during the summer.

What caused the Iceberg that sunk Titanic to 'break off' we didn't have any SUV's then, Icebergs have been floating around in the Atlantic for as long as man has been sailing those waters, why did they break off?
