I hope we do not get involved in this mess.. and that during this strife there is minimal loss of life, particularly "collateral damage"...

I always get a kick out of "Americans ordered out of Arab country" because I wonder why any American would even want to be in an Arab country....actually, I wonder why anyone would want to be in an Arab country.

Maybe some people like living cesspools...

Or maybe they have business interests or are career politicians...

There are american communities in Saudi, Istanbul is a wonderful city, Dubai attracts the rich and famous, Morrocco is interesting there are more..

Not every Arab country is a "cesspool"...

Food from this area of the world is the bomb.. many of my faves originate in this region. Hummus, Falafel, Yogurt et al, are not only good but good for you.

I get your point Darryl...but I was referring to why any American would want to LIVE in Syria (unless you're Syrian).

My brother's wife is half Syrian and her mother makes all the stuff you listed. But she also makes the best pastries I've ever had!

I had a Syrian friend when I was younger. Like many old school families you could not enter that house without eating. The Syrians can seriously cook and eat - real good food without a doubt.

To suggest that all Arab countries are cesspools comes close to crossing the line in my opinion, but more importantly it reveals how ignorant you are of the Arab world.

There used to be a Syrian Bakery in Fall River, great meat pies and really great spinach pies.. used to make the trip specifically for those treats.

Simple, very tasty food.. hardly a cesspool.

    Crossing what line?

You're right Patters, most people see the Arab world as a wonderful place to live!

    The line of stereotyping.

Most people live very nice lives in the Arab countries. Sure, there are a few nutty ones like Libya, but the reality is that most people grow up in a culture and conform to its norms, and their interaction with the bad elements is very limited. I have a Jewish friend who is married to an Algerian Muslim, and she went at least twice to the small village where his family lives to meet them. The men are extremely conservative (one of the brothers is Taliban-like), but according to my niece the women just laugh it off. The reality is that most people are not caught up in politics and religious issues like we are!

It's not the people or their country it's their barbaric religious beliefs, how anybody can complain about some bible thumper wanting to put a cross in his yard but go dead silent when a Muslim cuts off his own daughters head because she smiled at a christian is beyond me, I can't understand it.

JESUS WAS FULL OF SH!T WHEN HE SAID "LOVE THY ENEMY AS THYSELF" I DON'T WANT A DAMN THING TO DO WITH MY ENEMY.

Anthony Bourdain did a "No Reservations" episode in Syria, and was amazed at how many familiar, great foods come from this region.. from the previously mentioned Falafel, Hummus, Naan Bread and also Tabouleh and Tadziki to mention a few.. am not a lamb eater, but they are supposed to do that well.

Hardly a cesspool.. maybe the cradle of modern cooking.

So, is our State Dept still talking about Assad being part of whatever "reformed" government results from all of this? What a joke.

Most "Arab" countries are not too hospitable to the Jewish population.

Clearly the problem is American Christians and not Muslim intolerance.

I wasn't even posting about the people of Arab nations, I'm saying Arab countries are fuggn' ugly places to live. From the economics to the geography all the way to housing. They are PHYSICALLY ugly places to live, on average. I'm not referring to the food or the nice areas, which are few and far between.

Do liberals never want to call a spade a spade? There is nothing wrong with talking about ugly places to live whether it's somewhere in the US or a foreign nation. I'm beginning to believe liberals "never want to insult anyone" to the point of being in denial about reality.

If you're neighbor lives in a sh1thole, it's ok to call it that. Maybe not to his face, but we all know what a craphole looks like, don't we?

Maybe someone can share the facts on the demand for "Immigration applications" to Arab countries and prove me wrong....Anyone?

Why do you, among others, always try to reduce things like this to libruls? pubbies / conservatives do the same sh*t and get just as defensive, just on other matters.
