Laurence Maroney did as good a job as he could've tonight. I know this may invite a lot of B.S. about him "dancing behind the line," but the fact of the matter is, there was massive penetration every time he did. I Thought he played, overall, a whale of a game, given the limited opportunities. Hope they continue to get him out in space and keep him back there for kick returns.

    Okay, shoot me.

I agree - he looked very decisive tonight, and ran with a lot of power. And like you mentioned there was a lot of penetration during the runs he was stuffed in the backfield. I was really impressed with him, and I was surprised to see he only got 32 yards tonight when I looked at the box score. It seemed like he rushed for a lot more.

i agree, and it seems someone has finally heard our call and maroney is going to be more involved in the passing atk

however, the runs at the beginning were amazing....then the O-line completely stopped run blocking, and NONE of our backs had anywhere to go

    I completely agree.

I enjoyed that when he was in the backfield it wasn't a guaranteed run. He got to pass block, he got to catch a couple passes and he was there when they ran play action passes.

He did the best he could. I'm hoping he can keep it up for the rest of the season.
  5. I was shocked when I looked at the box score and it only read 32 yards rushing. The way he ran, it seemed like he had a lot more yards than that.

I agree, he ran well tonight. It was a breath of fresh air for sure.

He was one of the best performers of the night. He got yards when they we're there and he lost yards when the o-line let the bills get in the backfield right after the snap. So if the o-line had blocked better for him in the second half, he probably would've had better stats.

Great job tonight except for one play where he kinda missed a block. I'm sure the more he does that, the better he'll get at it. Nice hard running and he caught a few passes too. That was good to see.

I liked how well he did tonight. He's really got a chance this season as long as he stays healthy to be an good contribution to the running game as well as even the short passing game as well.

Maroney ran hard and looked more decisive than he has in years yesterday. Poor guy had 2 plays in which there were 2-3 Bills in the backfield by the time Maroney even got the ball. At one point I heard boos after Maroney was stopped for a loss of 3. Totally unwarented (at least this time).

No shooting of anyone, I must have watched a different game. he had a very good kick return, then a couple of nice runs and then he completely disappeared and couldn't get the job done in short yardage. I swear he has a 'tell', I have never seen anyone get tackled behind the line of scrimmage so often.

He is a first round pick and will stick around bit I don't see anything except a league average RB.

Not going to shoot you. In fact, I will totally agree with you. I wish they played him more, because he looked good. I also prefer him returning kickoffs, over Faulk.

You have to give some credit to the OL. Those long runs he had, it was like the DL disappeared. The one knock I would have is we should not be using him on short yardage situations.

The rest of us concluded you were usually watching a different game a long time ago.

Good point, I loved it when Law ran back that pass from Kurt Warner.. that was awesome.

I almost forgot the near stroke moment I had when Maroney totally whiffed on a blitz pickup. That was the most chicken sh&%%^t thing I have seen in a while. Give Maroney is 10 touches but on money downs leave it to Faulk.

Agreed - Maroney looked like a beast in the first half when he had space to run. The OL is still having trouble when a team loads up the box - what team doesn't, I guess? - but when the Bills were playing pass and we gave it to Maroney, he was tough to take down. Very impressed.

The power set was not working, though, like I said, the OL was not winning its battles in running situations.

The speed difference between and Maroney and K Faulk returning kicks is very noticeable. I would like to see him back there more often.

Nice post, good thread. I saw this guy with dreds splitting out to wide receiver (couldn't see his number) and for a micro-second I thought: what? we signed Doug Gabriel again? Great to see. :)

I still contend we have a 'tell' when Maroney is in, as to what the play is, and where it is going. I don't know if it's Maroney (maybe he only has eyes for the hole he's headed for, and the D can see that pre-snap). Maybe the OL leans a little bit to one side or another, letting the D know, who knows. It just seems like on at least 1/2 his runs, he's getting hit in the backfield - that can't be his problem (unless he's the source of the tell). The other option is that we're predictable. With Maroney in certain formations, there are only so many plays we'll run, and the D can figure it out.

Having said that, I thought Maroney looked good last night, especially in the first half.
