Evidently, there is a twitter fight going on now between the Herald reporter who sets records for referring to himself in his reports and Christopher Gasper of the Globe.

Evidently, Rapaport was using his cell phone during the Myra Kraft service and Gasper called him on it.

"cgasper @RapSheet Not attacking you. I have always respected your work. Just feel using a phone inside a funeral is bit indecorous. Just my opinion."

Unless Gasper used his mind to upload those characters to twitter...didn't he commit the same crime? Curious.

I guess this answers the age old question "If two nobodies have a twitter fight does anybody hear it?"

    The answer is: Shmessy.

BTW, good for you, Chris in calling that boorish egomaniac out. Someone should have tossed him out on his ear for that.

Of course, Gasper tends to be mild mannered so now he is covering his tracks a bit and saying '....well, I know Rapapport and he's a good guy, I wasn't attacking him or anything, just pointing it out that it was indecorous....', etc.

Folks, even a kindergartener knows you don't use a cellphone in a funeral.

Umm, you evidently took the time to comment on it.

And, yes, if two reporters from the two rival major newspapers in Boston get into a personal pissing match in public, then YES, Letekro, many will find it somewhat interesting. If it doesn't interest you at all, there are hundreds of other threads for you to visit on this site.

From what I can tell, Rap was just tweeting, not talking.

And Gasper did the same thing while tattle-telling on him. So, I'd say they're about even.

Gasper's was AFTER the funeral. A little respect is not too much to ask.

Seriously, next time you go to a funeral and see someone typing away at his cellphone during the eulogy are you really going to say "Ah, it's ok, he's just tweeting"?

And Rap's was before the funeral. He just happened to be in the building, making it at least mildly boorish, but not worthy of a pissing match that Gasper started.

My bad...It's just that for me the local sports reporter is about as prestigious/noteworthy as the guy that cleans the porta-potties.

I hear ya. Some are ok (Reiss, Gasper etc.) some don't know how to act like an adult.

I-an could have waited until after the service ended to get his "big scoop". A few minutes wouldn't have ruined his "career". It's about human dignity.

I agree...but I also don't think it's out of the ordinary for a member of the media to put their job before social norms.

Besides, we know the Herald sports guys have a history of jumping the gun on stories anyway....friggin' Tomase.

As someone posted earlier, Ian tweeted before and after the service, and he wasn't the only one. If the media is invited to a high-profile funeral, you can't expect them to put their pens, or in this case, smartphones down. Gaspar seems like he's just not as big on Twitter, as Ian and a few others.

A private discussion won't up his page views, or his regional/national profile, so clearly it wasn't an option.

IMO, Gasper's tweet is worse than what Rapapport apparently did. Manufacturing controversy at a funeral is pretty weak.

Not to mention the epic "Hit me with your rhythm stick."

this is one of those etiquette and new technology issues. I do buy the notion that the media were invited in to cover this event as part of recognizing Mrs. Kraft's wonderful life and contributions to our region. These days tapping away on a device is no different than scribbling on a note pad. There were probably a good handful of photographers at this event, as well as videographers recording the event for news programs that most of us will watch later.

I know plenty of people with news reporting and photo experience; they all dread coverage of deaths and funerals. But they also know that families are almost always appreciative of the coverage and the "tribute" to their loved ones. It's a tough situation, but as long as some boundaries are respected (seems like most tweeting came before and after the service) the end result can be respectful for all.

Why do some folks here assume Gasper tweeted during the funeral and thus accuse him of the same folly as Rappaport? Gasper's not an idiot, firing up his cell phone during the services would have made him as much a twit caught tweeting when he twouldn't be.

I bet Gasper waited until things were over to post. So many folks just can't wait to hate on the media like the posters themselves are creatures of higher evolution. You aren't, except over Borges!:singing:

I'm a little confused, so did Gasper see Rapapport use his phone during the service then after it was all done, go on twitter and call him out?
