Obviously the whole Taylor thing sucks. That is one thing.

But I am flabbergasted at just how many people are extrapolating the rest of the season based on one game when we have 10 other games that should be just a relevent as that one.

Somehow, now that NE didn't win by 20+ points Josh McDaniels sucks again, Maroney is garbage, the defense is a sieve and on and on.

Didn't NE just obliterate a Buffalo team that was also around .500 prior to the game? Didn't NE hold Indy to 20 points a few weeks ago? Haven't all other great teams played poorly against mediocre competition before? Didn't the same AJ Feeley that ripped NE's secondary do the exact same thing against the best team in NE's history with a far worse Miami team?

I'm all for critical analysis. Show me why WR X was able to come completely free and how it was really safety Y's job to watch for that route. Diagram how NE blitzed improperly prior to a 24 yard pass play. NE clearly played their worst game of the year.

But they still won. How in hell did we have any confidence in the 2003 and 2004 playoffs if we can't in this team? Shouldn't we have a little more perspective and let the next game happen before we decide that things were not just a bad day but harbringers of doom?

Sorry if this comes across as overly obnoxious, but I really am taken aback by the tone on Pats boards today.

Maroney doesn't suck because of last night. His whole career he has done NOTHING above average. I don't know about you, but I want the #21 drafted player in the 2006 NFL Draft on the field by game 11 of the 2007 season. If we ain't going to use the kid, than we should have never drafted him. We should have drafted a cornerback, linebacker, or somebody that can actually get on the field. Maroney is a DUD, which is why BB doesn't play him. If he was a STUD, you can bet your arse off that BB would have him in the gameplan. The LT's of the world aren't left out of gameplans.

Just wanted to say I liked that you called the 04 Pats the greatest NE team. I agree. I'd take them over the 07 Pats.

Word. Thats what im saying, I think it shows that they can win no matter the situation. Come on now, you know nbc asked the nfl to make sure it was a closer game in order to generate better raitings.

Don't you make that comparison after the season?

    Oswlek,

Lots of people here don't know what they're talking about.

You clearly aren't one of these people.

Just be happy about that :)

All the perfect fans deserve a perfect team.

The defense (pass) was actually a sieve last night. That is not a theory or hyperbole. That's just a fact. What we do with that fact is interesting.

To me it was all about not anticipating what the Eagles were doing toward the center of the field. I think that was the result of good scouting and game planning, and caught our guys unprepared.

But look, the other guys are pretty good, pretty smart, and want to win too. We aren't the only team with good coaches or players. We will have games where the emphasis is on winning the game, not piling up happy points.

It's the same few sheep bleating loudest at every opportunity. After an off game like last night, a few more more members of the fellowship of the miserable will join along with the bleaters. If New England pastes the Ravens, it'll just be the hardcore bleaters again.

Sure, but I think at this point you'd have to say that D was better. I love the offensive show, but wow....Ty Law, Ted Johnson, Bruschi at his peak, Seymour demolishing people...Rodney taking heads... That was a stellar defense, they were the highlight of the show.

Really? Go to the Chargers boards and ask them about that in regards to the playoff game against New England last season and the start of the year this season.

Compare what he did in his rookie season to what Brandon Meriwether is doing this year.

Ummm, are you comapring Schotty and Norv to BB? Puhleaze. BB plays the best players. He goes with what gives him the best oppurtunity to win. If you think he would have LT out of the gameplan, than you are wrong.

    Two questions:

    1. What is Maroney's yards per carry average?

    2. What is the league average for RBs?

    Two more questions:

    1. What was Maroney's yards per carry average last year?

    2. What was the league average last for RBs last year?

I posted this in another thread...

Back in '91 when the Skins started 11-0, they faced a Dallas Cowboys team that was young, inexperienced, and up and coming. It was a game NOONE gave this Dallas team a chance, however...

Despite Mark Rypien not getting ANY pressure all year, he had an innefective day against a staunch pass rush. The Cowboys secondary just harrassed that Posse trio of Monk/Clark/Sanders all game long. The Hogs' nasty OL was taken to the woodshed by Dallas' front 7, and they couldn't run the ball. OTOH-Dallas' OL practically manhandled the Skins' top ranked D-Emmitt had a big day. And guess what, Darrell Green was schooled all game long by Dallas' receivers in the middle of the field, and 1/2 of that was by a backup QB(b/c Aikman sprained his knee).

Guess what-the Skins went on to win their next 4/5 reg games(in their lone loss, they rested their starters), and went on to WIN THE SUPER BOWL!

Anyhow-does the above (big)paragragh sound familiar? Yeah-I remember ALOT of pundits then saying how the once mighty Skins were FINALLY exposed, and would be beatable. But guess what? The Posse and the Hogs came up BIG in that Super Bowl against Buffalo, as did their front 7 AND Darrell Green.

I've probably posted this a 1000 times by now-but I find it laughable how just b/c of ONE game, all the mediots are acting like the sky is falling and it's the end of the world.

Heck-at least Bill Walsh had a brain when he discussed the Skins losing that game-it was b/c having to go through the media distractions with a possible undefeated season, their FOCUS was getting a big OFF. And with that loss, at least they can put all that nonsense behind them and start playing football again.

And as for any weaknesses your team has? Both Green Bay and Dallas have weaknesses covering the middle too(I believe the latter has some guy by the name of Roy Williams that's become the laughing stock of this league. ). And didn't the Steelers lose to the J-E-T-S?? And don't the Colts have trouble stopping the run?

    2004 D >> 2007 D

    2007 O >>>>>>>>>> 2004 O

and here are the #'s (2007 #'s extrapoloated through 16 game)

    Points Scored:

    2007: 642
    2004: 437

    Points Against:
    2007: 269
    2004: 260

the 2 teams aren't even close (with all the data we have on the 2007 team, so far)

and at this point in 2004, iirc, we were 10-1

I agree that the defense was very.... um..... generous with the passing yardage this week. But nothing that happened in the past indicates that this is a consistent problem.

I also agree that Philly was well coached and played a fabulous game.

This coming from the king donkey???

1st off, its not about being miserable. You just happen to purposely take what is said and blow it out of proportion in an poor attempt to make yourself look better

2ndly, when the team, offensively and defensively, has as many misses as the Pats did last night, they should feel lucky to get away with the win. Just because you want to ignore issues doesn't mean they aren't there.

Meriweather is a defensive back. You can't compare defensive backs to running backs. It's universally known that running back is by far the easiest position to come into the NFL and play well right away. Maroney was ok last year. Nothing special, outside of the Cincy game last year. Since that game he has done absolutely nothing. I mean the guy is basically a JAG right now. I see no difference between him and Kevin Faulk when he is in the game running the ball. That's how sad his career is at this point.

I hear you, it's all about Any Given Sunday - a team isn't going to play their best every week (ie, the Pats last nite) and sometimes, teams are going to come in against us and play as well as they can (ie, the Eagles last nite). It happens, we might even lose a game *gasp!

That's why I think all this 19-0 talk is jibber jabber. Once we're in the playoffs, one bad quarter for you and one amazing quarter for them, that might be all it takes to send you home. Can't take these things for granted, letdowns happen, the Pats - to some extent - had one last nite, they still won & they'll move on.

On the other hand, I do understand the feeling of "finally a close game (to a team other than the Colts), finally something to talk about!" and I think that contributes to what you are speaking on.

You are wrong on so many levels.

    1) LT is in a category all by himself.
    2) You do a disservice to both LT and Maroney by pathetically attempting to compare the two
    3) Just because YOUR expectations are unrealistic doesn't mean that the rest of the world's expectations are.
    4) Maroney IS a damn good RB. Your bias against him shows your ignorance.
