Awful, awful game for Wilson.
I think that all of our DBs deserve a big slice of Humble Pie, IMO.
He was equally bad against the run and pass. B. Meriweather looking like an option if this continues. Whole secondary a step slow. I thought cb's played way too soft in coverage. TO and Crayton are big dudes. Neither is a deep threat. Have to get more of a jam on them. We usually have help over the top. So, it's not catastrophic if they get behind you.
Awful, awful thread for drew4008.
Maybe you'd like to give us a rundown? Or at least a full sentence?
I think you're nitpicking.
if anything there were two major plays:
the strip of brady for a td
and the kickoff return.
other than that, the defense as a whole had trouble at times.
the pats controlled tim of possession big time
The defense gave up 24 points and didn't have a takeaway until desperation time. And they did that without being handed bad field position by the other units.
That's not a strong result.
After good QB pressure and great overall defensive results the first few drives, the defense seemed to become generally much less effective.
Please elaborate. The defense as a whole had several lapses.
The four missed tackles by Seau, Samuels, Sanders and Green in the end zone on Barber were inexcusable.
Actually it was 20 points given up by the D. Good performance overall I thought. Our DBs tackeld poorly, Samuel is trying to strip too many balls rather then laying a good hit/tackle. Hard to be upset over a 21 point win.
I'm not sure about your math... but I know the offense gave up 7 of the 27 points.
Generally, a defense giving up 17 or less points is considered a good result. Usually a team will win if they give up 17 or less points.
Giving up 20 points to a offense the caliber of Dallas' offense? That's a great result. All the metrics until Romo's brainfart game against Buffalo had Dallas as one of the league's best all-around.
He missed at least 3 tackles that I saw, was run over, was responsible for one of Witten's long receptions and was just generally poor in coverage. I didn't see him up at the line getting his nose in on many tackles either, even though I know he doesn't do that much to begin with. Whereas Rodney was all over the place every down. And I know we won by 21 and it was an overall good game, I never said it wasn't, just stating some negatives to today's awesome win.
lets not forget those cowboys are not so bad.gooo pats!!!! always room to improve.
And Harrison was responsible for one of Witten's long receptions when Witten just threw him out of the way. Harrison was all over the place, but he missed a lot of plays all over the place too. Just because you are everywhere doesn't mean you are making good plays. Personally, I thought Harrison was just as bad as Wilson.
I thought Wilson made one really bad play (the first Julius Jones run in a row, the second should have been a tackle but the refs screwed it up). I saw every one of our starting DBs give up at least one play (Samuel and Hobbs taking each other out on a TO TD for example). I don't know why you are singling out Wilson.
This is my ranking on how the secondary played from best to worst
Harrison missed tackles..couldnt cover
Hobbs got bullied a lot and gave TO the TD with his bad angle tackling
Wilson at least made the 2nd JJ tackle..i blame the front 7 more..no way should he get there that quickly
Samuel did alright besides the endzone where him and was it Rodney let the WR get in the back. Other than that..he didnt stick out in a bad way..he had good coverage most of the night
Not that we all have to be pom pom waving homers 24/7 but why is it there is always a rush around here to state some negatives to a day's awesome win? Bill will deal with those when he breaks down the film. Sometimes there is a reason, sometimes it's just poor focus or executuion or lapse of technique or a guys playing at a little less than 100% or whatever. Thing is we just don't know because that's the way Bill runs this franchise we root for.
I think there possibly were some serious lapses on defensive calls and coaching in the third quarter too. But we'll probably never know.
Bottom line, even the players enjoy it for an evening, and as fans we should try to start to at least match them in that regard...
