How this team differs from last years...?

This team differs because:

1. Last year they were the 2010-2011 Patriots

2. This year they are the 2011-2012 Patriots.

Oh and there are some new players and such.

Coach? Is that you?

...confused I guess, would be the turnover differential.

How can re replicate that? More pressure MIGHT mean picks, but honestly, last years turnover differential was the best since the 80's redskins, TB also had 2 or 3 luckily dropped interceptions, and we can't rely on never fumbling again. I can see the interceptions for our defense remaining high, we have a secondary with a thing for picking it off, but I don't think our offense can maintain control as well as they did last year, it was a truly incredible thing with ho well we handled the ball last year.

The Pats probably will not have quite the turnover differential, but that is not as bad as it sounds. Part of the reason they generated so many turnovers last year was becuase the defense had trouble on 3rd downs which results a lot more defensive snaps. This year, the defense will be much better on 3rd down, and the offense, with an improved OLine and receivers and addition of a power running game, will be be even better at sustaining long drives. This will all result in dominating the time of possession batte and the defense playing significantly less snaps. This year's team might not blow out as many opponents as last year, but they are much better built to sustain leads and win against tougher opponents.

1. Addition of Haynesworth, Ellis and Carter means tougher, more physical defense.

2. Hope to see even greater contributions from younger players who contributed last year (McCourty, Spikes, Cunnigham, Chung, Gronk, Hernandez, Woodhead ...)

3. Fewer distractions - Moss soap opera, Mankins contract.

4. Return of Bodden should greatly improve CB play at all levels.

5. Additions of Carter and Anderson are a big upgrade in edge pass rush capability while Haynesworth/Wilfork generate big push up the middle.

6. Better mix of talented youth and experienced, hungry veterans eager for a shot at the big prize.

Last year has come to be regarded by many as a failure. While one and out was a huge disappointment, let's not forget that a very inexperienced team managed to win 14 regular season games. Certainly improvement is needed in a number of areas but the starting point (14 wins) means NE is building from a very strong base.

This could be a lot of fun ...
