Venezuela, a country blessed with abundant oil reserves, reserves which Hugo Chavez has appropriated (stolen) through "nationalization", and a nation who is making a HUGE windfall profits from the enormous world-wide spike in oil prices, has an inflation rate of almost 23%, and cannot feed their own people. Hugo Chavez, the left-wing, anti-American, pro-Castro dictator of Venezuela, is set to seize yet more private industry assets, as he seeks to go down the failed road of Marxist-style socialism, the same ideological favorite of Hillary Clinton, Barrack Obama, and John Edwards. Look for this kind of thing if a Dem is elected president:

Venezuela's Chavez threatens to seize properties, citing price speculation

    The Associated Press
    Published: January 11, 2008

CARACAS, Venezuela: President Hugo Chavez threatened again on Friday to seize property from businesses if they are caught hoarding products, as Venezuela struggles with shortages of some basic foods and high inflation.

Chavez warned that price speculation is occurring "at all levels of society, from the big capitalists to the small shopkeepers," and said his government could expropriate property from individuals or companies that purportedly sit on goods for months to sell later them at inflated prices.

"I ask the ministers and lawmakers to pay a lot of attention to this because it's one of the causes of inflation," he said during a marathon address to legislators.

Annual inflation soared to 22.5 percent in 2007 — the highest official rate in Latin America — according to the Central Bank.

Chavez — a close ally of Cuban leader Fidel Castro — has made similar threats in the past. No such takeovers have occurred so far, however, and Venezuela continues to have many private supermarkets and food distributors.

Report 'em to the cops, then. They arrest people for the crimes you've accused them of.

Or, you could just go down and live in Venezuela for while. Send us a report on how "good" it is in the socialist "paradise"!!!

And yet, somehow, they find money to supply heating oil to some of your less prosperous friends and neighbors during cold snaps.

    Bastards.

JFK would roll over in his grave if he knew his own nephew was in bed with our very own modern day Castro.

Yeah, but would have absolutely no reaction to the fact that the U.S. takes such poor care of its least fortunate, that we have to take aid from what he would think of as banana republics.

    Sure.

Yeah, and from oil refineries they stole from Shell, Exxon, and BP!! Wow, easy to be generous with OPM (other peoples' money) !!

They are like the guys in Africa who used to take all the food the U.S. shipped over and re-stamp with "From your comrades of the Beloved USSR".

If it helps, Joe Kennedy's outfit, "Citizens Energy Corp." is a for-profit company that makes money. That's capitalism while helping the needy. What's your problem with that? Is it the Kennedy thing or the Chavez thing?

So for the next president, whoever that might be, we'll hire "Charlies' Angels" to watch over our high-level diplomats when they go to war zones.

Man, you got to check the warning labels on whatever you're taking these days.

My problem is that it isn't Hugo Chavez's or Joe Kennedy's oil to be selling or giving away!!! It's easy to be "generous" with other people's stuff!! Thievery. Who are Hugo Chavez and Joe Kennedy, the modern "Robin Hoods" of this age?? Gimme a break.

We are paying $3.59 a gallon for heating oil, many people are having a very difficult time heating their houses.

Yes, it's a bad situation. I have wonder, though: how can we go from $1 a gallon five years ago to the prices we see today? Why the jump from $18 per barrel then to $100 now?? OPEC? Russia? Somebody is behind this confiscatory rip-off of the public, and it isn't Geo W. Bush. I know China is flush with money these days, having been pulling in some $120 Billion per month in trade imbalance with the U.S. for the past ten years. Everything is working in THEIR favor; they're even LENDING money to Wall Street to keep it afloat!!! Wake up call, people!!

What did the Bush administration do 5 years ago?

Do you think the war might have something to do with the price of oil?
