We have 10 draft picks. Four of those are comp picks that can't be traded. yes, we can trade the player after the draft but that doesn't happen much.

We need to bring in young talent at certain positions. But, is there room for 10 rookies plus the UDFA's?

We might trade up or trade down or both. When it's all over, how many players will we actually draft?
  2. Wow! I didn't know the Pats had so many. I'm thinking around 7 players. 4 on defense and 3 on offense.

Who do we take in the first round? Last year you said that you picked Maroney before the draft. I was a Bobby Carpenter guy.

Who do we take at 24? Do we trade up or down?

I selected 7 - if we didn't have to use the 4 compensatory picks I might even go lower.

I expect a lot of trading up and down, and that BB will wind up parlaying some draft picks this year for improved position in next year's draft.

That foresight will, I predict, be one of the prime items of discussion here on draft day

I said 7. I think we trade for more picks on day one.
  6. Before I answer let's take a step back and analyze last year's first round pick. Looks like the running backs in this years draft is weak, so my question is, would you have liked to see the Pats take a LB such as Carpenter or a RB like Maroney. The reason why I ask is because the LB's in this draft may be as deep as last year's and the running backs don't look as good except for Peterson and Lynch. Of course, I didn't know that the LB's would be pretty good in this draft and the running backs wouldn't be as good, so the Maroney pick makes the Pats look like they took a RB at the right time.

I liked Maroney last year because Dillon lost a few steps, I thought the LB's would all be gone by the time the Pats made their pick and Maroney seemed like a can't miss prospect. Now, since the Pats took care of the offense in last year's draft, I like LB and DB in the first round. Would I trade up? Nothing dramatic, maybe a few spots to grab the player of choice. However, trading the 28th pick for a future 1st round pick would be a great move as well because the draft is deep which will result in many teams trying to trade up in the first round.

I don't have a prediction just yet because it's still too early, but soon I will have one. Players that I do like are who could be available when the Pats pick:

ILB Patrick Wills -In my opinion -I would be extatic if he falls to the Pats. would be the ideal choice. Very high character, smart, loves the game, but his workout times could have his stock skyrocket, could go as high as the Bills.
S Reggie Nelson - He is all over the field, plays like Ed Reed, stock could be rising.
LB Paul Posluszny - Had he not blown out his knee last year, would have been top rated LB ahead of A.J. Hawk in 2006 draft.
DE/OLB Jarvis Moss - good pass rusher, disrupts every play, good size.

I think some of the CB's are going to drop into the second round as well as the Safeties.

If best available defensive player isn't there, this is who I like on offense that have a chance to be available when the Pats pick:

WR Dwayne Bowe - I'll admit, I have never seen him play, but lots of people think he is a high character guy who loves to play the game, would be a nice addition.
WR Robert Meachum - Has great hands, speed and a big target
OT Joe Staley - *Surprise pick if available* his stock is rising because of his freak athletic ability. The Pats run blocking needs improvement, hopefully Staley is that guy.

Would you trade up to get Willis?

I think the Patriots will use 8 draft picks.

I don't think there is a particularly large market for the areas where the Patriots have most of their picks concentrated ie. day two.

I also don't think the Patriots have any real ability to move up in the draft this year - if they move it may well be down first (into the 2nd) and then back up again gaining an extra mid round pick.

Although under appreciated, TBC was a very low round pick and I think the Patriots would rather roll the dice on an extra low rounder than trade up for a player with a slightly better draft rating.

Personally, I would rather they packaged as many of those low rounders as possible (the tradable ones) and moved up - but I just don't see it.

I would say now that we would have to see if we could deal with SF at #11. We could get their #11 & #79 for our 24 & 28. I wouldn't go any higher than that. We would end up with one special player to fill a big need, then get some solid players to fill other, less pressing needs.

I hope the Pats use all of their draft choices to draft players. Obviously,

if a desired player can be obtained by trading up a little, the Pats will do so.

We should remember that six of our choices are late fifth round and after.

At this point in the draft things get quite iffy. None of these guys will be

a lock on making the team. We might be better off getting a couple of

cornerbacks, safeties, and linebackers and have them compete for three

roster spots. The cut players could be put on the practice squad.

I picked 8 but I wouldn't be surprised to see them take 1-2 less than that.
  13. Yes I would. But only if he is available around 15-17 range.
