.

Anybody who works in government or for government-sponsored programs knows that those government departments are SUPPOSED to be non-partisan. So how does the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) get away with taking a clearly partisan position to actively SUPPORT Barack Obama's call for his personal agenda???? What if the NEA had issued a call to support the Lord's Prayer in all public schools when Bush was president??? No hue and cry from the pony-tails??? Something rotten in Denmark.

After 'Inappropriate' NEA Conference Call, White House Pushes New Guidelines

    September 22, 2009 12:46 PM

An August 10, 2009 National Endowment for the Arts conference call in which artists were asked to help support President Obama's agenda -- a call that at least one good government group called "inappropriate" -- has prompted the White House to issue new guidelines to prevent such a call from ever happening again.

"The point of the call was to encourage voluntary participation in a national service initiative by the arts community," White House spokesman Bill Burton told ABC News. "To the extent there was any misunderstanding about what the NEA may do to support the national service initiative, we will correct it. We regret any comments on the call that may have been misunderstood or troubled other participants. We are fully committed to the NEA's historic mission, and we will take all steps necessary to ensure that there is no further cause for questions or concerns about that commitment."

In the call, Yossi Sergant, then the NEA's communications director, seemed to encourage the listeners to create art to further the president's goals by promoting the United We Serve campaign and create art specific to areas of health care, education and the environment.

I'm not clear as to what the fine line is. Surely, every president before Obama has called on different departments to back their initiatives. In fact, the Bush administration went so far as to actually fire people in the Justice Department who did not support their political goals. That's an extreme and prosecutable case. This case is not nearly as extreme, but I do credit the administration with creating tighter guidelines to prevent the sort of abuses that occurred during the Bush administration.

Actually, the two examples are very different: in Bush's case it was an example of two very different interpretations of the law, and Bush chose his interpretation, which could have been challenged by Congress or anyone who wanted to take it to court; we're still waiting for that to happen. In Obama's/the Dem's example we have people who are clearly pushing a broad agenda, one that would impact -- and DOES impact -- the entire nation, as well as the entire world by extension. What Bush did is open to Constitutional interpretation; what these toadies working for Obama have done is for purely POLITICAL reasons. A world of difference.

Fog, please enlighten us as to what Bush's "interpretation" of the law was. This should be good...

None, Federal Atty. serve at the pleasure of the President, doesn't matter why he fired them.

This is why Clinton dismissed a Federal Atty investigating him in Ark and no one challenged him.

Wearing red scarves, Foggy, would be a symbol of support for the Republican party, using current American political iconography.

In terms of legality, as the linked article quotes, they are not even close to the "fine line".:

For most agencies this is business as usual; the appointment of the politicals at the top of each agency is specifically to transmit the decisions, programs, and agenda of the PARTISAN president, who was ELECTED, along with his party, down to the career feds.

What the feds can't do is use their connection to the government to work for the election of a party or a candidate in a partisan election, along certain guidelines.

There's nothing illegal here; what some find troubling is that the NEA folks have no problem saying "here are areas of national service - go make art about it!"

In other words, it is a pollution of the purity of artistic endeavor to mix it with any point of view that others may politically oppose.

Now: if you never spoke a word on the appropriateness of NEA grants going to Mapplethorpe, for example, or others whose art you oppose on "moral" grounds, raise your hand. I'll be glad to have this discussion with you.

    Others, STFU.

Try getting a CLUE before spouting utter gibberish. It'll do wonders for your credibility. Here, let me give a much-needed hand:

A pioneer movement is an organization for children operated by a communist

Communism is a socioeconomic structure and political ideology that promotes the establishment of an egalitarianism, classlessness, stateless society based on common ownership and control of the means of production and property in general.... party. Typically children enter into the organization in elementary school and continue until adolescence. The adolescents then typically joined Komsomol.

Komsomol is a syllabic abbreviation word, from the Russian Kommunisticheskiy Soyuz Molodiozhi , or "Communist Union of Youth"...or a similar organization. Prior to the 1990s there was a wide cooperation between pioneer and similar movements of about 30 countries, coordinated by the international organization, International Committee of Children's and Adolescents' Movements International "The International Committee of Children's and Adolescents' Movements, generally known by its French language name, Comit? international des mouvements d'enfants et d'adolescents and acronym CIMEA, is an international pioneer movement organization....

Budapest is the Capitals of Hungary of Hungary. As the largest city of Hungary, it serves as the country's principal political, cultural, commerce, Industry, and transportation center and is considered an important hub in Central Europe.... "

Patters, personally, I've had it "up to here" with people not discussing the point of a thread. It's truly embaressing when I see both sides bringing up examples of "the other side's mistakes" to use as a defense of an action.

In other words, it's very sad and reflects a lack of intellectualism when people don't discuss the wrongs of their party and instead bring up "similar" examples of the opposing party.

An incident MUST be judged on it's own merit. In this case, what George Bush did is totally irrelevant to this discussion. And even more sadly, I'm not telling you anything you don't know.

So I'll be the first democrat on this board to say,

"Foggy, you're right...the Obama administration was wrong to attempt to gain support of their initiative with a publically funded institution. What "other" administrations have done is totally irrelevant"

There, that actually felt good....very cleansing! ;)

What they don't tell you is how much of your money these groups received shortly after this phone call, and how these groups went right out and did exactly as they were told by the Soicailists and pushed Obama's socialist agenda.

This is a clear violation of the Hatch Act, and the ban on Lobbying (oops, I'm sorry, wasn't that one of Obama's "changes" that he would not have lobbyists working in his administration.......

In what way did anything in this phone call have to do with working for the election of a party or a candidate, FTW?
