ESPN to Fire Rob Parker for Racist Remarks on RGIII? Highly Unlikely.

How does Rob Parker still have a job?
Let's face it, if a white guy said that, they would be fired without a doubt.

    RG3 is Not black enough?

    Why??
    White fiancee?
I am sure a lot of black professional athletes have white girlfriends.

    Republican?
I am sure that didn't help

What do you want him to do?
Have a child in every city?
    Have an illegal gun?
    Get involved in dog fighting?
    Would that be black enough?

Yes...... I would have ben fired for the child, gun, and dog fighting reference.
Why won't they fire Rob Parker?

Very valid points Joe...and all I can say is....

    "This place sho' gone crazy!"

I'm referring to the United States of America....

Oh...and you're absolutely right, Parker SHOULD be fired.

Yeah, this was being discussed in the Patriots forum today. Bigoted attitudes are common with Parker. He has a reputation for it....and not only that, he a Patriots hater.

Heard that while in my car a little while ago on WEEI. So Holley and ordway are discussing it ... Holley is livid but contained. Then an older black man calls in and says it reminded him of a Black Panther meeting from 30 years ago - that really put it in perspective ... some people (Parker) can't let the past go and it's sad, vulgar, objectionable, distasteful and a lot more adjectives. While we all have a right to our opinions the man is also an employee and he should be canned IMO.

Re: How does "racist" Rob Parker have a job with ESPN?

Did he use words like "we" or "chicago"? If not, then he's clearly not racist. :D

There's definately a difference with a white person using certain terms, in certain context's, versus someone of color doing so, or vice versa. However, the key being the context. Whether that's a double standard or not, the bottom line is, it's reality. What this guy says kinda deserves discussion simply because of what it says. This guy really isn't alone in his thinking. That's what's truly messed up.

BTW, I love RGIII. How can you not? The kid is a winner, has a great attitude, and is exciting to watch. When the Redskins made the trade for the #2 pick, I thought they overpaid. I liked RGIII, but thought the price paid to move up was too much. So far I've been proven wrong.

    He's paid to be incendiary.

Look at the rest of the cast:

    Skip Bayless - Contrarian
Stephen A Smith - The 'inconvenient' truth

They all play a role to incite one portion of the audience. It's masterfully crafted and very deliberate. In every show, you basically have one of the three say something outrageous and the others attack him.

It's largely orchestrated for sure but Parker's bigotry surfaces from time to time. In this case he said what he meant and he meant what he said. I'm not giving him an actor's license for this one. I guarantee you he will dig in.

Guess it is good that I do not watch ESPN all that much... not missing much.

The medium has become the message..

Re: How does "racist" Rob Parker have a job with ESPN?

    Just my opinion....

It seems to me that some African Americans expect other black Americans to always stay "black" and be loyal to the African American cause...whatever the fugg those 2 terms mean. And that is just plain ignorant.

#1. No African American should be expected to act any way. No more so than a white or Asian American.

#2. There is no African American cause to be loyal to.

I'm not black, but if I was, living life is hard enough for everyone without worrying about what "My people" think. If I was black, I would hope I would dismiss what anyone thinks and strive to live my life as I want and be the person I want to be.

Seriously, we all need to ignore what "people think" of us and be free of those kinds of chains that drag us down.

So I hope RG totally ignores Parker's comments as if he doesn't exist. And if Parker ever tries to talk to him, I hope RG takes the high road and tells him to fugg off.

But I think the key is, they don't have a right to incite in ways a white commentator would not be allowed to. Being black (or white) doesn't give one different rights.

Re: How does "racist" Rob Parker have a job with ESPN?

I've heard the exact same bulls#!t from Irish-American goofs who are appalled when I say I'm no more Irish than Barak O'Bama. I love throwing that out at the local Mick watering hole. I have a very Irish name and face and people are shocked to hear that I'm not Irish, even though both my parents are from there and my face turns pink when I get past three pints of Guiness. They say I should be ashamed of myself, as they dribble beer on their "kiss me I'm Irsis" button attached to their kelly green, made-in-China sweater. Most of them couldn't find Irelan on the map and couldn't speak a word of Gaelic, yet their tribal identity is the most important thing in the world when they get together and sing "Oh, Danny Boy" at closing time.

Of course, what this idiot on ESPN said was no less moronic than the rantings of these sad, drunken potatoheads, but it wasn't any worse, either.

False outrage is all the fashion these days.

Well if your Potato heads were on ESPN and decided to quesiton
Fitzpatricks loyalty to the IRA cause, you know they would lose their
    job.

He should have been fired, but at least they did something.

Potatoes and turnips. The IRA is a violent terrorist organization (supposedly). The so-called "black movement" is not (supposedly).

Re: How does "racist" Rob Parker have a job with ESPN?

    RG3, seems queaky clean.

It sounds like Parker, would have more respect for him if he was in the mold
of a Michael Vick or a Ray Lewis.

You know... people down with the cause....

No I did not mention (OJ Simpson, or a Rae Caruth).
They are total scumbags, and scumbags come in all colors.

Michael Vick and Ray Lewis are successful football players who seem to balance
endorsements and a criminal past that seems to be acceptable by the
majority of the population (not just people of color).

Why even bring up something irrelevant? Stick to subject matter. I've never had anyone expect me to be loyal to anything Irish...and yes, my last name is as Irish as you can get.

    I'm rooting for Alabama too!

All we need to know is that this d-bag said something insulting to RG on national television....so how often do you hear/see something similar on TV regarding the Irish?

    Never is your answer.
