That's because raising taxes will not solve the problem. Revenues are not the issue here, we are taxed enough and no matter how much revenue is raised, Congress will always spend 10%, 20%, 30% more.

The amount of global prestige our nation has lost under Obama is pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.

It never ceases to amaze to what extent you have absolutely no idea what you're ever talking about.

We spent the majority of the first decade of this century confirming to each other just how screwed the next president was gonna be - whether it was Obama or McCain - after decades of deregulation, cooked books and outsourcing. Now along comes Team Tea Party with two minutes left on the clock, down 35 points, to inform us that we're gonna lose the game (somehow, because of the black quarterback who took over for the tired old veteran who couldn't get out of his own way).

"Global prestige our nation has lost?" Seriously? What a caricature.

You need to review post 9/11 America, champ. No one squandered that political capital quite like your Chimp-tastic hero. And no one did more to hasten the collapse of the U.S. empire.

Unfortunately words like negotiation and conciliation, have been replaced by the pig circus inside the beltway.. one upsmanship and showmanship is the rule of the day...

This will continue and serve no useful purpose, during the next session.. and then next November there will be significant change.. Congress is polling at 82% unfavorability...

Yes, folks, we're 2 1/2 years into the Obama presidency and the left is still blaming George Bush for everything.

    Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.

That's what happens when you elect the single most divisive, most partisan president of all time.

He is not that divisive, the folks who oppose him are.. from the onset the leader of your party, Rush Limbaugh, said that he hoped he would fail. Since then the right has done everything they possibly could to fulfill their marching orders from Herr Rush. Even though most of what they have done is bad for the country..

Conciliation and negotiation are dirty words...

Not sure he is any more or less partisan, they all tend to be that...

The 'merican people still blame congress more than him, even though the right feverishly tries to change that.

She's says she's running for President as the Green Tea Party president. If she wins, you'll be drinking your rye whiskey sitting across from someone with a Frappachino.

Interesting article from National Journal, which I think has a good reputation as a sort of cut and dry nonpartisan publication:

    Why S&P?s Downgrade is No Joke - Edmund L. Andrews - NationalJournal.com

But it’s hard to read the S&P analysis as anything other than a blast at Republicans. In denouncing the threat of default as a “bargaining chip,” the agency was saying that the GOP strategy had shaken its confidence. Though S&P didn’t mention it, the agency must have been unnerved by the number of Republicans who insisted that it would be fine to blow through the debt ceiling and provoke a default.

I'm playing wait and see on this one.....

S&P was one of the major players in the mortgage fiasco....I have little doubt that this downgrade is in some way tied to its attempts to deflect its responsibility in this matter.

trying to divide up the failure pie between the left and right is a waste of time. the status quo is unacceptable. raising the debt ceiling in order to give a bunch of drunken sailors more money to waste frinvoulsly is a joke. raising taxes to reward incompetence is unacceptable.

I believe a complete purging of incumbents at this point is the only tangible action that would be any kind of meaningful step in the right direction. they have all failed us and its time for some real change.

dems or repubs........it doesn't matter as long as it is not the dems of repubs that are there now.

    #24 Jersey

I look at it this way....would you want to loan money to someone who was loudly asserting that defaulting and refusing to pay your past bills was an honorable, acceptable, even encouragable, action?

Or would you rather lend it to someone who wants to give it away to a group of unproductive people who will ensure that the loan recipient will not make their money back and be unable to pay back the loan?

We should stop accpeting money... our use of capital is pathetic...

George Bush was elected? I hear the Supreme Court made him president because Florida "didn't have time" to conduct a recount.

1.) On what basis are you saying revenues are not the issue here?

2.) On what basis are you saying we are taxed enough?

1)On the basis of spending as a % of GDP especially when state and local spending is factored in.

2)On the basis of having among the highest corp taxes in the world on the basis of have brackets that cam easily go over 50% when factoring state and local taxes, we won't even mention prop taxes that get loaded on for people who own homes.

We are over taxes and we are over spending. Note that the other Western social democracies are doing the same thing and they are broke also.
