For those of us who didn't get to see the game live, how did Cannon look protecting TFB?

It sounds like "he did good." :rocker:

Cannon played well, over-all. Not spectacular, but he wasn't a turnstile either..

He's got to work on his run blocking, as does the rest of the O-line..

First half the whole line struggled but given he was lined up against a very good Miami DL both he and Solder were excellent second half

After Manikins goes down with a knee injury on the 1st quarter, the OL goes Solder, Thomas, Connolly, Waters, Cannon. Pretty rough in the 2nd quarter as Brady faced consistent pressure, but after half they settle down, provide very good protection and establish the run with Ridley. A few breakdowns but pretty solid especially on the outside with Cannon and Solder as Wake is a nonfactor in the 2nd half. With Connolly getting his first start in over a month and Cannon and Thomas seeing their first extended action of their careers, and Solder going the distance at LT, I'd give them all game balls.

Those who thought that Cannon's best position in the prose would be as an OG weren't wrong. As an emergency 3rd string injury replacement at OT, he did a stand out the 2nd half.

Remember its like September for this kid. His future is all in front of him

Ken - I think that he played well in the 1st half except on a couple of plays. But, you are correct, his best position is going to be OG.

As usual, they used a "3rd tackle" alot, but he was left on an island (against Wake) for a good percentage of the plays. Like many are saying, they improved drastically in the 2nd half. Overall, I would say the O-line today was average for an NFL O-line; which, considering the circumstances, was an A+ in my opinion. I mean, Waters was the only original season starter for most of the game.

For awhile there in the 1st half, I had a flashback to the '07 SB with the way the O-line was diminished.

The bigger question was whose idea was it to put Mankins at LT? Dumb, DUmb,. Dumb makes you weaker in two postions..Then it is compunded when Mankins gets hurt.

Solder was fine at LT, he should have started the game thee and leave Mankins at LG.

Hopefully Mankins will be OK, any word????

How was it dumb? Maybe they didn't believe a rookie who had no training camp and missed half of the season on PUP wasn't ready to step in and start at RT against a pass-rusher like Wake.

Your right. Mankins at guard helps whomever at T on the inside, mostly all they have to worry about is the outside. You move Mankins out and you have a guard who is not as adept in helping to the inside as Mankins. It wasn't working, at all.....

i like the look of cannon he moves well for a big man. He does get beaten with quickness or an inside move every now and then... but you have to give him a bit of a break he is playing RT, after cancer, against cameron wake and has been vey solid.

I do agree he will end up as a Guard but i am very happy with Cannon as our draft pick and hopeful of the future.

a 5th round pick who beat cancer playing pretty much he's first NFL game vs a All Pro pass rusher, i say he did a nice job

Like a good rookie would play. I would say we have a keeper in this young man as his upside is excellent. You can tell when you have something going when the person is not being singled out for being a rookie and given mulligans for his play.

He's 100x better than what the Jets have in Wayne Hunter.

I thought it might be a good move. Like Cannon, Mankins played tackle at college and then moved down to guard in the NFL as his size suited him there a great deal more.

I actually thought we might see Cannon tale the LG spot, but the fact the coaches weren't willing to go with him at either tackle or guard tells me they may not have been comfortable with him going straight out for this game. Lets not forget he hasn't been off of the NFI list for very long.

It could mean a few other maybe they weren't happy with moving Solder to the left side and, with no Vollmer, they felt they had to put Mankins back there...who knows.

The line improved when the Pats spread the formation out a little more later in the game and forced the Dolphins to adjust on defense....the Dolphins knew we had a make shift line out there and they blitzed like hell to start things off...the coaching staff deserve a lot of credit for revamping the game plan at half time to help them out.

IMHO, Cannon is a RT and a RG. He is a fine value for a 5th rounder, as Koppen was when we drafted him. The right side is solid for next year with Vollmer, Waters and Cannon. We have Light, Mankins and Thomas on the left side. Of course, Solder can play well on either side.

I'm so sick of Belichick wasting draft picks on these 5th round jags just because they're versatile....he needs to move UP in the draft and use all these picks to trade for a number one so we can draft a "beast!!!!!!!!!!" like Robert Gallery....or D'Brickashaw Ferguson.....I want players who play ONE position, so I can feel safe.....
