Maybe the Russkis are trying to shine us on; you know, throw a little head fake, a little deke. Anyway, read it and scratch your head. You won't be alone.

A cold spell soon to replace global warming
13:54 | 03/ 01/ 2008

MOSCOW. (Oleg Sorokhtin for RIA Novosti) – Stock up on fur coats and felt boots! This is my paradoxical advice to the warm world.

Earth is now at the peak of one of its passing warm spells. It started in the 17th century when there was no industrial influence on the climate to speak of and no such thing as the hothouse effect. The current warming is evidently a natural process and utterly independent of hothouse gases.

The real reasons for climate changes are uneven solar radiation, terrestrial precession (that is, axis gyration), instability of oceanic currents, regular salinity fluctuations of the Arctic Ocean surface waters, etc. There is another, principal reason—solar activity and luminosity. The greater they are the warmer is our climate.

Astrophysics knows two solar activity cycles, of 11 and 200 years. Both are caused by changes in the radius and area of the irradiating solar surface. The latest data, obtained by Habibullah Abdusamatov, head of the Pulkovo Observatory space research laboratory, say that Earth has passed the peak of its warmer period, and a fairly cold spell will set in quite soon, by 2012. Real cold will come when solar activity reaches its minimum, by 2041, and will last for 50-60 years or even longer.

This is my point, which environmentalists hotly dispute as they cling to the hothouse theory. As we know, hothouse gases, in particular, nitrogen peroxide, warm up the atmosphere by keeping heat close to the ground. Advanced in the late 19th century by Svante A. Arrhenius, a Swedish physical chemist and Nobel Prize winner, this theory is taken for granted to this day and has not undergone any serious check.

I don't know, NEMster. I've heard similar before, from other sources.

Mother Nature pays no attention to any of this sh!t she just keeps rolling along doing her thing, the Loons can squeal and blubber about Polar Bear Fur and a flood over in Sh!tsylvania Mother pays them no mind she does her own thing.

This drives the Loons insane, they can't control Nature.

Might want to stay away from this one NEM. The science is based on the peak in Solar activity passing. Al Gore is a scientific illerate. He won't debate anyone who has a differing view, to avoid getting embarresed I would guess.

I don't want to ruin the pretty amicable give and take we've established but, um, read that out loud :)

It's only funny 'cuz of what you're saying at the point of typo.

And Fog, thanks for establishing that there are also Russian crackpots.

Look real hard and you can give us a layman in Lebanon and another in Peru and one in France who believe the same thing.

Not that I'm a climatologist, but it would seem that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change would include quite a few.

A quick search of the internet does not reveal who this guy is and what his body of work is or his credentials.. for all we know Dr. Oleg Sorokhtin could be an entry level weatherman on the local news.. so it is difficult to ascertain the validity of what he says.

They both look credible.

Even more, when we start looking beneath all the hoopla that's been bloviating for years now -- with some people making whole careers out of it -- we begin to see that there are a lot of scientists, including credible climatologists, who do NOT agree the world is coming to an end.

The market will determine how much fossil fuel we use, and forseeing leaders and governments will make plans to wean off of petroleum because it must happen sooner of later. In the meantime, we don't need doom and gloom theatrics to "get it", do we??

The climate is beyond our control at any meaningful level. THe 'actions'
are a waste of time and money that could be used elsewhere. The implications for the third world is less progress and more poverty.

All so bureaucrats can gain more power?

No thanks.

The real issue is that were are relatively late in our latest interglacial period. IOW there will be another ice age. The next ice age will be a real problem for humans on this planet. If you want to worry about something try that.

OK, good point. Why does Bush seem to "cherry-pick" his scientific sources. I think the answer starts with what you have acknowledged: there are two sides to the issue, one pro, one against. And there are at least two reasons why one is either pro or against.

Regarding the MMGW debate, it is not the results of the debate which Bush is reacting to; it is the *political agenda* that many people perceive to be driving the MMGW. Can you not see that there would be countries who would benefit from a doubling or tripling of the cost of energy in America?? Already, China is ramped up full speed, they have a positive cash-flow (balance of trade) of some $120 BILLION per MONTH against the U.S. -- not to mention India and Europe. The U.S. stands to lose even more against a burgeoning China, a nation which, in its present frame of mind, will only use this as proof of China's future domination in the world.

So in the interests of national security alone, the U.S. cannot afford to be making treaties which ham-string the U.S. while giving burgeoning nations, like China, a free pass. If there was a way to ensure that China and other nations would keep their part of the bargain, I am sure Bush and the U.S. would comply. But, like the debacle of the founding of the United Nations, it's a case of: fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

Instead of constantly trying to blame American Neo Cons, The Bush Family And Ann Coulter why don't all those F-cking Green Bastards and their new God Gore get their hateful a$ses over into Russia, China, N Korea, Cuba, Mexico, AFRICA and all over So America and start spreading some of their Raving Lunatic Global Warming Crap to some of those uncivilized morons that still sh!t in the street and have live chickens running around their bedrooms, go to Thailand and try to stop those
f-cking dog eating scumbags from sodimizing little ten year old kids, show the Vietnamese how to sh!t in a toilet.

Green Liberal Democrats seem to love Dictators why don't the Greenie Loon Goons start preaching to them why is it always AMERICA they go after.

I haven't heard Oboomba Big Ears or Pant Suit Hillary saying much about Global Warming while they are running all over the country Clapping, Grinning and Bobbing their A$s Hole Heads.

Did you think anything was REALLY going to Change. There are people,or groups of people who's thought process and viewpoints have calcified with age, mostly. And arguing with them is an oppertunity cost. Its costing you an oppertunity to be doing something you'ed rather be doing.what ever that is. You can't even try to compramise with them because it ain't going to happen.
