The rate keeps climbing higher and higher. Now three out of every one hundred people in DC have HIV/AIDS. Under the Democrat health care plan, EVERYBODY in the nation will be paying for the medical costs of these HIV/AIDS patients, even those who work hard NOT to engage in free sex, drug abuse, or other risky behaviors. If not reversed, this is the end.

Considered a 'Severe' Epidemic, Every Mode of Transmission Is Increasing, City Study Finds

At least 3 percent of District residents have HIV or AIDS, a total that far surpasses the 1 percent threshold that constitutes a "generalized and severe" epidemic, according to a report scheduled to be released by health officials tomorrow.

That translates into 2,984 residents per every 100,000 over the age of 12 -- or 15,120 -- according to the 2008 epidemiology report by the District's HIV/AIDS office.

"Our rates are higher than West Africa," said Shannon L. Hader, director of the District's HIV/AIDS Administration, who once led the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's work in Zimbabwe. "They're on par with Uganda and some parts of Kenya."

"We have every mode of transmission" -- men having sex with men, heterosexual and injected drug use -- "going up, all on the rise, and we have to deal with them," Hader said.

3% of the population, at the average age of 35??? Meanwhile the drugs that prolong the life of people with HIV are very expensive, and who will foot those bills?? That's asking the people who live sensibly to pay for those who don't. That's crazy defined.

You know, some people in the black community think AIDS was created by the CIA to kill off the black population in America. Doing nothing to stop this pandemic plays right into that tin foil theory, only causing a bigger rift between the races in America.

Having a blase attitude is wrong; it is heartless.

Money is secondary to the personal suffering of the people involved, their children and that of their families... the educational efforts or lack thereof have failed miserably.. there is a need to rethink how things have been done and start over. Perhaps this is a side effect of abstinence only education, which has hamstrung many educators..

There have been numerous articles written about the increase of oral and anal sex amongst "chaste" teens and how this has been justified as a young woman has "saved" herself for marriage.

Not sure about your second paragraph, as the greatest rift is played out by unequal opportunity and economic divisions..

If you were really, genuinely concerned about "the personal suffering of the people involved...." you'd be telling people NOT to engage in risky behaviors, like free-sex, anal sex, casual sex, drug use, etc.

But, no, you'd rather deliver another lecture on how "evil" people are who don't want to fork over hundreds of Billions, if not TRILLIONS, to pay for people who insist on doing those risky, dangerous behaviors. And, of course, it's always so easy to not be concerned about "money" when it is not YOU who has to pay it!!

Stopping this pandemic is going to require changes in peoples' behaviors, from dangerous to safe; there's no debate about that. Change of behavior is the only cure to this problem.

Say what you may and create a hysterical response, my point is that what has been tried is not working.. and an alternative method has to be looked at.. abstinence education has been shown to be largely ineffective and there needs to be a way to deal with this differently..

Abstinence education is one of those feel good programs that sound good and lots of people get behind, but have proven to not be effective.

As he was a huge advocate for abstinence only sex education, his policies bears some responsibility.. as do the rest of the assclowns inside the beltway who believed in the same values.. the religious right once again wielded their heavy hand and influence.

Right now, I find it hard to believe that anyone in America is not aware of the AIDS virus and how it is contracted. How many other potentially fatal diseases do you know that are 100% preventable? I'm sure that if the government spend BILLIONS on telling you how not to get cancer, you would heed the advice. The plain aand simple truth is, that these people CHOOSE to act in a manner that puts them at risk. They should be charged higher insurance premiums just like smokers (could you imagine that pre-insurance questioning Do you engage in unprotected anal sex?). Of course, this is never going to happen. And once again, the rest of us (you know the people that actually work, pay their own bills, and don't live above their wage) are going to have to foot the bill for those that CHOOSE to be stupid!

Not a bad idea, but there are probably some regs that prohibit this.. of course the assumption is that all of these folks have private health care insurance..

They have spent billions on people smoking, it has not stopped it though..

Not sure what you mean here, but I meant that there have been billions spent on telling people the danger of smoking.. it has worked in some areas, but less effective in others..

Abstinence:
Don't f--k and you won't get AIDS, if you do f--k make sure you know who your f---ing and remember, "God created the anal canal for the emission of human waste" not for f--king, if some choose the "anal canal" so be it they know if they gamble they may lose, that is their choice.

AIDS can be prevented in most cases simply by applying some "common sense"

DON'T BLAME AIDS ON SOCIETY BLAME AIDS ON THOSE THAT PUT THEIR HANDS IN THE FIRE, WE TELL OUR CHILDREN NOT TO TOUCH THE HOT STOVE IF THEY DO TOUCH THE STOVE THEY GET BURNED IF THEY USE COMMON SENSE AND DON'T TOUCH THE STOVE THEY ARE SAFE.

THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH

AIDS almost whiped out hemophelia in the 80's and 90's. One of my best friends lost his life (So did all of his brothers) because of tainted blood during a routing transfusion. He was married to a beautiful woman. THey were not "immoral"

AIDS in Africa is almost exclusively borne by heterosexuals What is immoral about that? THere's nothing wrong with blowjobs and anal sex of that's what you're into, any more than vaginal sex and cunnilingus. That is not what causes AIDS. Any heterosexual (especially a woman) can contract it and children can be born with it.

As a society, we need to take care of our fellow countrymen. The OP would know nothing about that, unless he's talking about Lithuanians.

needles........errr, yeah..........don't share needles with your druggie friends, and your prospects for an AIDS-free life go way up.......as does limiting your sexual adventures to those you know

fact is, AIDS unanimously spread through intentional acts of low regard.........crap people ain't supposed to be doing

Well yeah...I wasn't talking about those AIDS owners. You put a needle in your arm for drugs...even a clean one...You might be too far gone to start with.

Hey, think of all the money to be saved from not having to cover them medically through their senior citizenship. :D

I think that the threat of getting AIDS via blood transfusions is just about nil right now (you were correct about it being a serious problem back in the 80s). If your sharing your needles, then that goes into my theory of disregarding the widely know facts about AIDS.

AIDS is passed by casual sex (front or back, it really doesn't matter), the moral of the story is known who you are sleeping with and you can completely negate your chances of getting AIDS.

Tanked as usual..

If you note my response was to Harry's rant and rave about Anal Sex.. it had a context.. and should not be viewed as a stand alone comment.
