I see nothing wrong with this idea.

It's very inconsistent with the tax deduction for dependents. Forget carbon credits and get rid of the dependent deduction if you want to discourage people from having many kids.

LOL Nobody "thought" it. A friggin reporter brought it up on a panel discussion board. It was a lone idea, it was only an idea, and even he says he only mentioned it to provoke discussion. If you bothered to read your own links you might not bother with the morality-hype.

“I wasn't endorsing any of this, simply laying out the math and noting the reality that if one were serious about the population-climate intersection, it'd be hard to avoid asking hard questions about USA population growth,” wrote Revkin.

“By raising the notion of carbon credits for, say, single-child American families,” he continued, “I was aiming to provoke some thinking about where the brunt of emissions are still coming from on a per-capita basis

"Moral overlords" fer cryin out loud, where do you get this stuff at???

Ted Turner is a big advocate of population control to 'save the planet'. Of course the real problem in the developed world is the demographic aging of the population which will be a disaster.
