I have not done research on this but I wonder if there was ever a team in NFL history that is out of the playoffs but has beaten all 4 remaining teams in the conference championship games?

I am not even sure if there was ever a team that beat both Super Bowl participants, let alone 4

anyone know?

I bet this will never be repeated again

Do not care. Would much rather the Pats be in this tourney still than some weird trivia anwer.

What do the 4 remaining play-off teams have in common?

I'm sure you guys will know the answer

They haven't lost in the playoffs yet this year? :D

I'd prefer not to say :(

All 4 remaining teams are those who finished in the top 6 in total defense.

I couldn't care less if the Pats beat 'em in the reg season.

The Pats have beaten them all, but unfortunately one not when it mattered most.

They all play outside.

None of them are the patriots.

Their team names all contain at least one 'e'?

Each has a player on the roster who is allergic to shellfish?

All teams have less than flattering choices for team colors?

All teams have more than 3 characters in their team name?

All teams have a Holiday Inn within 5 miles of their home venue?

So many possibilities. This subject is like Alex Trebek's worst nightmare.

The biggest reason that it is VERY RARE.......

The other conference championship game MUST include two teams from the same division. That means that the wild card team would need to win TWO road games in order to make it to the conference championship game. Then the division winner from that division must win their game.

That is unlikely in itself.

in the last half of the regular season against these 4 team (read: exclude week 2 and week 19), the avg margin of victory was 22 against all 4 remaining playoffs teams....
