In the past two weeks, Beck has viewed events in Egypt through his own rather warped filter. He claims that the rebellion is not about the people, not about democracy. Instead, he says, it's a move by radical Islamists to take over Egypt, as part of a larger plan to install a caliphate that stretches from the Middle East through Europe and toward the United States. And he contends that "uber-leftists" and Islamic extremists are "plotting together" toward this end. Last week on his radio show, he declared, "Groups from the hard-core socialist and communist left and extreme Islam will work together because they are both a common enemy of Israel and the Jew. . . . Islam wants a caliphate. Communists want a communist new world order. They'll work together, and they'll destabilize. Because they both want chaos."

It gets better. This grand cabal also includes . . . the Establishment. Beck points out that Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush refrained from bombing "ancient Babylon" during their respective wars against Iraq. "Why?" he asks. "Because the Bible tells us that that is the seat right there of power of a global evil empire," meaning that Islamic caliphate. Bush father and son each wanted to preserve the heart of a radical Islam caliphate?

Glenn Beck: Should Fox Toss Him Out of the Coop?

Beck also goes on to say that the Egyptian people, well, the "regular Egyptian people," anyhow, are not ready for democracy....

Beck first argues that he does not see "John Adams" or "George Washington" in Egypt. Given his next statement, it is not entirely clear whether Beck was being literal or figurative in his language. Beck next states, "The regular people of Egypt, I'm sorry they might be nice, but they are not the people of the American Revolution." So according to Beck, the Egyptian people cannot handle democracy because he does not see any the founding fathers living in Egypt today. The Egyptian people either need to invent a time machine or find a way to reincarnate George Washington if they want to have the right to elect their own leaders.Critics may argue that Beck’s argument reeks of ethnocentrism, and possibly even some racism. Beck, from his studio in the middle of New York City, simply declares the entire Egyptian population incapable of producing leaders “worthy” enough to fulfill a role like Adams or Washington. [/i]

Haha, you beat me to it. I was just reading about their little spat. When even the Weekly Standard crew is laughing at you you know you've got a problem.

    Two things on Beck:

    1. He has been doing this bullsh!t since he came on the air. He is a comedian with a high-school education posing as an historian. Anyone who believes his crap is intellectually limited or intentionally ignorant.

    2. Why any other news outlet or commentator would give him any ink or airtime is confusing to me. I thought we stopped listening to the John Birch Society a long time ago. It's like responding to Benny Hin as if he were Walter Cronkite. Beck will be gone soon.

I, for one, do not trust the whole "Muslim brotherhood" involvement in these protests.
I'm not sure how much they have to do with these protests. I know progressives minimize their influence(or appear to be doing this) on these protests. The main point of the protests being that Mubarak is a thug and brutal dictator and needs to be removed.
So I guess everyone is satisfied that if a changeover in government in Egypt occurs, it will be another secular government and not an Islamic republic. Apparently it is the military that will decide this but they too, are split within.
Israel is getting very nervous and I can't say I blame them.

I'd already read it, but thanks for reprinting it.

Thing is - this really has little to do with Beck's rant.

I think most of us are at least a little wary of The Muslim Brotherhood - some of us more than others, but even if we weren't, it would have nothing to do with the entire "left" being involved in some huge world conspiracy that has American leftists working hand-in-glove with Communists and hardcore Islamics to take over the planet or even with Egypt being not quite ready for prime democracy because they don't have a George Washington or a Thomas Jefferson in the wings.

Nothing in what this woman writes has anything at all to do with either of those things - or with Beck's claim that The Bush's, Sr. and Jr., were in cahoots with The Brotherhood to preserve Babylon.

And that's what this thread is about.

I don't watch Beck, so I can't add much there.

I was just reposting the article because I wasn't sure it was noticed where I posted it originally (no responses). I was looking for commentary on the thesis in the op-ed.

Your right, American Leftists would be out of their minds to get involved with the Muslim Brotherhood, as soon as they started their whacked out liberal sh!t with the Muslims the Brotherhood would have them for breakfast.
