You always hear about those JAGs who come to the Pats and become starters (Vrabel, Nichovich, etc). In BBs tenure, have there been any former Patriots that played better with another team? I honestly couldn't think of any.

Mr Wendy - that is Dave Thomas

One personal foul cost the Pats the Indy game and cost him his NE career. Pretty decent player in New Orleans.

He only had one good game with the Pats. Watson and Graham were hurt. He probably accumulated more than half of his yards as a Patriot in that one game. Believe it was against JAX.

I went old school and realized BB's tenure. Tough one. I can think of players that did well like Ty Law, but his best years were here. Wow...wait....Matt Cassel. But he is ot a Jag.

Another Saint, Remi Ayodele and another UDFA that didn't make it out of training camp Robbie Gould.

Re: Has any former Patriot played better with another team?

I can think of plenty pre-BB (Steve McMichael, Nick Buoniconti, Mike Haynes, Curtis Martin, Sean Morey, etc.) that had as much if not more success elsewhere, but the list is pretty short during the Belichick era.

    Robbie Gould
    Dave Thomas
    Matt Cassel

    Debatable:
    Damien Woody
    Ty Law
    Jermaine Wiggins
    Asante Samuel
    Heath Evans
    Ben Watson

Then there is Kevin O'Connell, who did go on to become captain of his new team.

The team obviously should be given a pass on Gould, considering Vinatieri was the incumbent kicker at that time. Same deal for Cassel with Brady on the roster.

Good lists. Your debatable ones are pretty much in the "played about the same and hence it's debatable whether they should have been kept" category for me.

A couple you're missing from BB's early days. Greg Spires did better in another system. Sean Morey became a Pro Bowler. And there probably were a number of lateral moves of unexceptional players, from Randy Gay down to Dan Klecko.

I thought Morey was gone before Belichick was here - no?

It's funny I did think of Gaffney. I guess I started thinking of other players; I don't know why I left him off that list.

Jim Plunkett. Finally got his QB rating in the 80s w/the Raiders at one point, I believe.

Re: Has any former Patriot played better with another team?

You really have to quantify what constitutes better. Some performed at the same level or better, but not in the post BB group so much when you consider what their replacement did here. Woody hung on to a career, but not as a center and not worth what Detroit paid him at the time. Ditto Asante who the Eagles have considered parting with in the past because his INT's just don't offset his gambles and didn't do what they anticipated for them. Law gradually faded past the point he was still worth what Bill was willing to pay him to hang around another 4 years. Ditto Milloy. Bledsoe too. Wiggie carved out a decent career earnings wise, but his replacements here won two more rings before they too departed for what has eventually turned out to be far more talented options. Denver never got out of Graham what either he or Shanny expected...

Guys like Evans and Gay have certainly done well but not better they did here. They left not because we were unhappy with their play but because we moved away from the fullback and didn't want to pay a premium for a nickle or dime corner. Maybe we would have been better served not to, but that is a different argument. Guys like Cassel and Gould aren't really in the discussion because neither was ever going to play here beyond as a backup. Klecko kind of hurt us once after he left, but it's not like he proved to be the missing link anywhere, just the occasional recipient of good fortune.

Adam hasn't done as well - and it would have been almost impossible to - although he was definitely an upgrade for Indy that paid dividends...once. But they struggled to deal with his increasing injuries after year one even having to carry backup kickers and kickoff specialists at times...

I assume you're talking about his tying TD in the 06 AFC Championship, that was set up by a bull**** face-guarding penalty the play before.

****, I'm still pissed about that.

Re: Has any former Patriot played better with another team?

    LOL No.

He played longer, not sure better. And he at least went to a SB while he was here. Something no JET player has accomplished in 42 years and counting. Even while also playing for both Bill's...

Re: Has any former Patriot played better with another team?

Guys like Eugene Wilson pretty much played at the same level as they did with the Patriots their last year. Milloy has been in the league a long time. I think Samuel has played as well but not better. Jabar Gaffney has had flashes his whole career, so I don't think he has gone on to be better.

Re: Has any former Patriot played better with another team?

Asante Samuel, 22 INT's with the pats in 5 years 20 with the eagels in 3 years... how good would this defense be if him and seymour were still here
