Bumping this for Pressey ... he's somewhat of a forum expert on the oil topic. What's up with shale oil PC ... is it worth it or are alternative options better?

Rhode Island wants to get into the wind power business ... some company wants to invest a billion dollars into offshore wind power that will supply like 10% to 15% of the states electricity. One billion for that much energy ... seems like my bill is going up .... way up.

you mean the tired and true GOP practice of quietly and sneakily attaching legislation to other larger legislation? i call it "pilot fishing" the bill ... when they know other lawmakers won't read it all, and it gets unwittingly passed as a whole... like when Frist snuck the anti-online gaming bill in under the Safe Ports Act... slimey, conniving... and completely disrespectful ... sounds like that kind of scenario, maybe not... but i don't care enough to read the specifics.... Reid is a fish...

anyhow, Oil Shale is an expensive sham that is decades away from being even a viable option... it also pollutes the nearby ground water to the extreme and scars the land for miles around... think about it... you're trying to suck oil out of rock... not pools of oil stuck between massive plates, but actual oil remnant out of bedrock... it costs an incredible amount of energy just to conduct that process... it's not cost effective, and it's a waste of time...

we're better off investing heavily in more bio-diesel study (i.e. algae), and expanding wind/solar as much as possible... not stupid stuff like "clean coal" and "oil shale" and "tar sands"... the earth is sick enough already than to burn much worse hydrocarbons than mere cheap crude....

i suspect Reid realizes this... although, he's going about it the wrong way, being the spineless fish that he is...

When you read this bill and the gazillion amendments tacked on to it.. you realize how f..ed up this congressional process really is.. try to find something in that bill, it is nearly impossible, and matches our bloated government and after passage still have to issue regulations.. it is way too complicated..
