Hopefully debate on the Online Protection and Enforcement of Digital Trade Act wins out. It's not perfect but it is far better than SOPA and Reid's PIPA.

The same scumsuckers that constantly scream bloody murder about "freedom" and "the constitution" are the first ones to try and take your freedoms away from you if you don't kiss their ass and tow the party line, Harry Reid and the rest of those Grinning PIGS who are all members of the Filthy Pelosi Gang are nothing but politician crooks, dirty dogs, fornicators, adulterers, clapped up morphadite vermim swine.

What Skinny Little Weasel Reid really wants is to take the peoples freedom to publicly disagree with his dirty partisian sh!t.

Mark My Words "there will be violence in the streets just like they do it in the middle east" America is changing and the New Violent America will squash The Harry Reid Politicians like bugs.

Dirty Harry won't allow me to post sh!t like this anymore.

Oh Jesus Lord, smite the dirty f-cking politicians.

Does anybody know what this proposed bill actually does, and what the pros/cons are?

If Skinny Harry is pushing it you can bet it's aimed at shutting people up that don't agree with The Left Wing Liberal Facist Socialist Communist Sh!t.

Harry The Weasel would like nothing better than Censoring and Completely destroying Matt Drudge and that guy that Nailed Dan Rather.

Destroy Freedom thats what it's all about.

    another useless reply, how surprising...

Coming from the guy who wants to ban use of the n-word because he can't say it freely w/o being criticized, and who wants to ban renditions of the national anthem and christmas caroles that he doesn't like...

Now, if anybody actually has some knowledge about this proposed bill and the communicate intelligently, I'd appreciate any insights you might have.

SOPA is bad news, pretty much its just like a giant firewall....like another country I won't name has......Funny ass thing about it is, the internet community already has a workaround in terms of browser plugins....they can pass the bill all they want, it won't change a thing, people will just go through a proxy or have a workaround.

They say this is about piracy but what its really about is control, if this bill goes though any website at anytime can be shut down without notice and without cause based on what the content creator says....I.E copy write holder....If he/she thinks someone is using their copywrited content. Also lets say wikileaks, they could of been blocked by the government.....another way to block information!

Let's say you post a video on patsfan.com and that video you posted is owned by someone, this site could be shut down for that! or lets say a picture or an news article! There is no due process either! Its there word over yours and until you can prove it they can shut you down or block you!

Now if your server is overseas they will just block you since they can't shut you down....There is already a work around for this though and if it goes through there will be tons more.....so I don't understand what they are trying too do...

H.Reid is a POS and I hope he looses his seat next time around, that man is bought and paid for in full by big money! So are a ton of others, we live is a crazy time, they are gonna keep pushing!!! So the question is when will we push back?

SOPA will do nothing to stop piracy. It is all about giving Internet Providers a tool to make more money. Youtube will be the first site blocked by all the providers :)

Stealing intellectual property has kicked a giant hole in the computer games industry. Nowadays its all consoles (which suck) because you have to mod the inside of your $300 xbox/playstation before you can steal anything. Many people are afraid to do that for obvious reasons.

That's not the case with computer games though, so now most good games get a crappy computer port months after they're released on the consoles and even then they don't work right until patch 2.0 finally comes out.

I agree mostly... but another reason computer games are losing out is because there were too many bug filled pieces of crap being churned out and people got tired of it.

You still see the quality companies making a ton of money on quality pc games. Companies like Blizzard and Bethesda are a couple that come to mind. Skyrim was a huge success recently for Bethesda and you know Diablo III is going to make Blizzard a ton of money as well.

The bottom line though is that SOPA will not stop piracy, it will not even put a dent in the flow of illegal software, music and movies that are downloaded.

The real purpose of SOPA is two fold, first to let Internet Providers control bandwidth and second to be used as a tool against the growing trend of people saying no to paying for cable and other tv/movie services.

You can bet that SOPA will have some very fine print 5oo pages in that gives the big tv/movie content providers (Time Warner, ATT, Verizon) a way to fight online services such as Netflix and Hulu.

I took my two little sites down for the day. Not sure it'll do any good since virtually no one reads them anyhow, but hey, what the heck, right?

I did here a blurb about this boycott. I am glad the people are making a stand and that GoDaddy changed.

It might help with awareness and that is a good thing.

The problem with PIPA/SOPA is that they will make individual site owners responsible for verifying copyrights, not the copyright owner, and the House version would also criminalize links to sites that violate copyrights. The bills would even make it illegal to provide information on how to get around SOPA. For any site that allows users to exchange information and files, this will create enormous problems. Do you think Patsfans.Com has the capacity to block all copyright violations? This bill is a backdoor way of giving more power to the large internet content providers and hurting the small ones. It would criminalize the acts of those around the world (such as in China and Iran) who use various software solutions to get around the censorship of their government, and it would encourage service providers to block users and websites with reckless disregard as long as the service provider acted in good faith, whatever that means.

There is validity to the issue of copyright infringement, but SOPA and PIPA are really written as a means of discouraging small websites that compete with larger ones, and discouraging the free flow of information.

By the way, it's interesting to note that DemocraticUnderground has joined Wikipedia in the blackout today, but freerepublic has not. This is a rare issue where libertarians and liberals are very much in alignment, but many traditional conservatives not surprisingly are on the side of big business and big government.
