If you had told a Patriots fan in 2009 that they would have their pick of either of these 3 guys in the second round, or in Hardy and Selvie's case later, they would have laughed you out of the building and then fainted. So my question is was the original assessment made on these guys that far off the mark last year or are these guys late bargains??? To play devil's advocate you could say Selvie received more blocking attention after his monster year, Hardy's injury problems could be behind him, and all the noise surrounding Dunlap could just be hogwash. Would you want any of them?

If I was Indy I'd be all over Selvie in the late rounds. The other two, Carolina might like Dunlap in round two to see if they can motivate him.

To me, Selvie is too slow to play OLB, even in a 3-4. Could be a decent 4-3 end though.

Hardy is both an injury concern and a character/motor concern. His 40 times
(4.82) indicate his injuries have forever hampered his burst and long speed or he hasn't cared enough to rehab properly. Wouldn't pick him until the 5th.

I am not a Dunlap fan, unless he goes to the Patriots. No this is not just blatant homerism. If the Pats select Dunlap, that means Dunlap's motor/character has given a stamp of approval from Meyer to BB. Yes, I remember Chad Jackson, but doesn't that mean Meyer has to be extra cautious with his reccomendations to BB, meaning he would only give one if he was ABSOLUTLEY sure of a player?

There is no questioning Dunlap's talent and I certainly think he has the agility, along with the strength, length, and speed to play OLB in the Pats system. His biggest on-field problem (besides motor) is his tendency to stand straight up on the snap, an issue that is somewhat negated at OLB.

The other intriguing thing with Dunlap is his stock. I could see him going anywhere from mid/late round 1 to all the way to the end of the 2nd round. If the Pats pass on Dunlap at 53, we will certainly know what Urban Meyer thought of him.

this is the entire reason i am not enamored with JPP. Not that he doesn't have talent but who is to say he isn't just another selvie with one good year? playing on the opposite side to selvie who was getting all the attention from the defense.

Its just funny the difference a year makes, last year people were drooling over Spikes as well. Now you could possibly get him in the 5th, 6th, or 7th round.

Not to mention he's terrible at football.

9.5 sacks in the SEC isn't exactly terrible.

They all have one thing in common; bad SS times. Their agility numbers compare to DTs. Vince Wilfork ran a 4.5 and these guys ran 4.6s. They are not complete athletes without change of direction ability. Same for JPP and others.

I don't care how many sacks he had, still not impressed with his ability to run past a bad block.

Have always loved Hardy as a strongside OLB. He could be one of the biggest steals of the draft if he falls as far as some draft experts have projected. Really hope he ends up on the Pats.

The thing that sucks is the Jets have really recognized his potential. They worked him out twice and will probably take him in the 1st or 2nd round. Their defense will be dominant if he has a healthy career with them.

I'll laugh if the Jets take him in the 1st round because we'll hear all the Jets fans screaming "WHAT"???

Hardy has BUST written all over him the way Gholston does. It's why his value has fallen into the 4th round.

Selvie is the same way.. A guy who had the potential to be even better and all that has happened is that he's seen his stock slide..

Both of those guys have seem millions of dollars fly out the door with their poor performances.

EDIT: BTW - Just because a team brings a player in twice, it doesn't mean they have "recognized his potential" It usually means that they have further questions and need to review him to push them one way or the other.

Selvie looked great his sophomore year but then he got consistent double teams the last two years. I still wouldn't mind spending our last second round pick on him since we don't have a third. I can't see him lasting till the fourth round.

I don't see the Hardy/Gholston comparison. Hardy was very productive and actually looked like a top 10 talent when he was healthy. Gholston put up double digit sacks in 07, then was a workout warrior at the combine and blew people away with his strength and athleticism. Hardy didn't have that great of a combine. If anything, I'd say Pierre-Paul resembles Gholston much more. One year of production, disappears at times in games, workout warrior who is very raw, has seen his stock rise due to his freakish figure and numbers rather than his play.
