Now keep in mind, on a global basis, the "richest" is defined by world averages.

"The United States holds a disproportionate amount of the world's rich people.

It only takes $34,000 a year, after taxes, to be among the richest 1% in the world. That's for each person living under the same roof, including children. (So a family of four, for example, needs to make $136,000.)

In the grand scheme of things, even the poorest 5% of Americans are better off financially than two thirds of the entire world."

So who's problem are the poor of our world? Is it up to each nation to help their poor or do all nations have a responsibility to help them?

Should it be with our tax dollars or via private charity? Or do you feel that we need to get our own house in order before US tax dollars are sent as aid?

No offense to anyone, but just like when it comes to my family, I worry about them first, everyone else second. That goes for my country too. USA first, everyone else second. That doesn't mean you/me/we can't or won't help other people too. It just means family and country comes first.

You can all call me names now. :p

With "Liberalism" running the show Cuba or Mexico could occupy us, Mexico has almost done it already.

I think it is likely that China will "get old before it gets rich". The urban areas are booming, but the rural areas are still largely third-world squalor.

So most of the OWS people (you know the people who actually got to attend college, which is where they accumulated their loans) are actually someone else's "1%"? Who knew?

I feel disillusioned now...I thought college campuses were among the most impoverished neighborhoods on the planet...

I'm not biting on such an empty comment. FYI...China doesn't have the framework to prosper in a capitalist world economy.

Now maybe if they allowed the best & brightest to immigrate to their nation, they could compete long-term.

But then again, the thread subject is "Half the world's richest 1% live in the United States"

I thought 1%-ers were one of your favorite topics?

I wonder how much of the world's poorest 10% live in America, the land that liberals hate so much. In order to measure how "poor" people of different countries are, we'd have to look beyond net worth and instead look at quality of life. For example a "poor" person in America will still have access to free health care, housing subsidies and education for their children. Heck, you can have an apartment, 55 inch TV, cell phone and computer and still be below what America calls the "poverty line."

Given those criteria, I'd say probably none of the poorest 10% on the planet live in America. And yet, for some reason, all those liberals still hate us.

Hate is a stretch in the righty world, but it works for them, but do not understand "us" kimosabe???

Hate is a word used by the right to evoke sometype of sympathy as it portrays them as the victim of all of the anger by the lower classes?? For example, they hate us because we pay less taxes than we do, even though we are the job elimators.

Oh woe is me the "left hates us", we are the victims.. but it comes off as borish and quite tiring.
