    Direct from the CDC.....

    "Situation Update
During the week of October 11-17, 2009, influenza activity continued to increase in the United States as reported in FluView. Flu activity is now widespread in 46 states. Nationwide, visits to doctors for influenza-like-illness are increasing steeply and are now higher than what is seen at the peak of many regular flu seasons. In addition, flu-related hospitalizations and deaths continue to go up nation-wide and are above what is expected for this time of year."

How much above normal are "deaths" ? That blurb says nothing. My kids had a flu two weeks ago, I assume it was H1N1, we did nothing out of the normal and they're sure not getting that Frankenstein shot. It'll be OK and it's certainly not "scary".

This is the biggest load of shyte ever.... It has nothing to do with health care reform..... Nothing. They would'nt dare work the people up into a frenzy. They don't want us to need their help. No not at all.

I have to agree with BF here aswell, I'm not scared one bit, I think people and news get worked up about things just for the shake of getting worked up lol gives them somthing to talk about.

I hate shots and would never get one if I didn't absolutely have too, if I die then I die its my time to go:p

Just about everyone I know, including medical professionals, all seem to believe that this many sick at this time of year is a very scary episode, there are those who will rely on anecdotal evidence, rather that looking at a big picture...

There will be those who criticize the vaccine, as it came out too fast.. in reality this happens every year.. just another thinly veiled opportunity to blame Obama..

Take it for what it's worth, but a close friend of mine, who hasa relative inside the CDC, told him that this flu is being overhyped by the press. Who knows.

It's really fun since obama governs through scare tactics - in fact he ran on scare tactics too.

It's got a mortality rate of ~1%, anywhere from 4-15 times higher than the normal flu. Overall, it's not a high number, but comparatively it's nothing to sneeze at (npi). Want to hedge your bets? Lose some weight. Some studies show higher death rates correlated to higher BMI.

Well he does, all the way back to accusing the Republicans of racism ("they'll say I look different") when they had said nothing.

    Sorry for switching subjects.

I'm not going to list all the fear, I shouldn't have done it in this thread but he is clearly the Fearmonger in Chief.

Consider the alternative, if he was quieter on this... he would be accused of playing too much golf, basketball or other such nonsense... whether or not it affected your children it is serious... you cannot extrapolate anecdotal evidence to a larger scale, when I was a kid quite a few got polio... just because no one in my family did, did not mean it was not a serious event.

Wow!! I didn't think a little comment would result this kind of reaction. Hey, it sounded scary to me.

I do agree with your comment "who knows?"....I guess time will tell.

Right vs. Left is irrelevant to anything. It's just in "some people's" minds. The flu has nothing to do with republican vs. democrat, so please avoid comments along those lines or start your own thread.

If you wanna discuss irrelevant topics, the NCAA should force Boise St. to change the color of that ugly-***** field.

Funny, that's the reverse of those who say W. should have warned us the country more about any terrorist attacks back in 2001.

Anyway, he's a fear monger no more no less. He should give the stats of the rate that people catch it compared to the average flu and the frequency of significant issues once caught, including death. Then we can decide for ourselves.

What PR quoted, I have no problem with. PR's interpretation, now that's a little overboard.
