Camp observations: Rookie ritual

Quarterback Tom Brady was back after having Wednesday off. Still among the missing were left tackle Matt Light, safety James Sanders, cornerback Jason Webster, tight-end David Thomas, linebacker Vince Redd, and offensive lineman Anthony Clement. Center Ryan Wendell, meanwhile, was taken off the PUP list.

Today was the day for the yearly ritual, where rookies are soaked in a kind of make-shift slip-and-slide. Tedy Bruschi, armed with a hose, watered them down as they dove into a mud puddle, and slid along the grass. The players are off tomorrow, and Patriots coach Bill Belichick said during his press briefing preparations for the team’s opening pre-season game would start on Sunday.
