    No.

This better compares to giving a 5 year-old the keys to the car, showing him how to start and shift it and where the pedals are, turning away, and letting him run over his sister. It's like handing a bottle of sleeping pills to a kid, showing him how to eat as many as possible and wash them down with water, turning your back, and letting him give the whole bottle to his sister.

This is not a "tragedy". Those examples you give are tragic, but this is different. These parents are criminally negligent- but maybe not in Kentucky.

The mindset of the folks south of the Mason Dixon is very different that our thought process up here. Should a 5 year old have access to a firearm...no friggin way...but to them it's like a right of passage...like your first pocket knife. The first thing we are taught is "It's NOT a toy" and "handle it as if it were loaded" and finally..."NEVER point it at anyone!" The parents should be punished severely even by the code of the southern thinking, for failing to teach even a 5 year old the basics about gun handling!!
Who really should be biyotch slapped for sheer stupidity other than the parents...are the idiot law enforcement officials for not pursuing something that would prevent this from happening again...southern mindset or not!!
I don't think we've heard the last of this yet.....

Our society today is disgusting, our colleges and public schools are infested with left wing communist liberal pigs brainwashing our children, the entertainment industry does the same (last week some rap rapper let one of the fans give him a blow job right on the stage.

Yeahhhhh actually more like buying your kid a bottle of MyFirstSleepyPills™ and then that other stuff about the parental neglect.

There's no reason to make kiddie firearms. None. Zero.

Self-protection on the playground. Apparently this seems necessary in Kentucky these days. Are there still subsistence hunters up there in them thar hills?

That seriously doesn't help the cause...neither does 5 year olds having access to guns......neither does stupid parents..neither does unattended loaded guns....neither does not educating ANYONE who comes in contact with a firearm.....

They also thought it was ok to own another human being....did that make it ok? Did that make them good?

Sorry but a piece of paper that's over 200 years old isn't the end all be all...

Gun are nor good or bad, they're a tool, like the bible or a screwdriver, car, knife, boat, etc, etc.

Not until the age of 8 years old....anything before that you're being a bad parent... At the age of 8 is when most kids can discern right from wrong...why would anyone give a child a gun before their 8th birthday is beyond me...

By the way, worth pointing out: One person's gun threatens himself/herself. It also threatens others - in concentric circles emanating from himself/herself: Most endangered are those closest to the gun-owner, followed by acquaintances, and finally by strangers.

All wisecracks aside: Since in KY (btw, love that their state abbreviation is also a personal lubricant...)

Right I said all wisecracks aside...

Since in KY, there's no law saying your gun should be locked up or on your person, and since there's no law against the kid being the gun-owner, these are law-abiding Americans.

Pretty pertinent to the argument that any form of gun control inconveniences only law-abiding Americans, and the people who need to be regulated will just ignore the laws.

In other states, there are laws that guns have to be locked up or on your person. Of course, if the kid is allowed to "own" the gun, none of these would be effective, but I would imagine that said states also don't allow the owner to be 5.

Let's just stick with the "can't own a gun when you're 5" angle.

This would just inconvenience law-abiding 5-year-olds who have not shot their sisters (and of course would also inconvenience their law-abiding parents.) It may also have prevented this particular tragedy, since you wouldn't have kids playing w/guns as if they were toys, and they wouldn't be made in tiny kiddie sizes.

The trouble is that before killing his sister, the 5-year-old -- and his parents -- were law-abiding red-blooded Americans who would be inconvenienced by such a law.

Were Tom Jefferson and James Madison really consumed by the need for 5-year-olds to shoot 2-year-olds, or are we mayyyyybe stretching that rationale when we get to crazy chit like rifles made for 5-year-olds?

You're right, Harry. These parents in Kentucky who gave their 5 year old son a loaded gun were typical "left wing communist liberal pigs".

Really.....wow. I didn't realize that guns, in and of themselves, are so threatening.

That settles it.....no more guns for cops.
