Great Win, but Let's Not Blow it Out of Proportion

Yesterday was a historically great win, in terms of margin of victory, points scored, total offense, etc.

However, let's not get too carried away:

-Tennessee was missing its two starting corners and playing college-level rookies there. The team was 0-5 coming in. Their secondary was worse than our 2005 secondary, when any bum QB could come in and throw 400 yards on us.

-Brady is getting more comfortable, but the 2007 Brady will probably never be back. Manning's most TD's since his 49TD season, is 31.

-Maroney had that nice breakaway run, but he never had issues running behind HUGE holes. His issues have always been when there isn't a ginormous hole opened up for him.

-Great that Chung got his first int, but that was against Vince Young, who is probably as good/bad as JaMarcus Russell right now.

Just trying to keep things on an even keel here and avoid the rollercoaster. The losses aren't as bad as everyone thinks, the wins aren't as monumental either.

I agree, it's just one win and one step closer to our goal. We've got 9 more games to hold this lead over MIA/NYJ and also try to inch closer to Indy/Den. Right now the focus is beating Tampa.

It's also another loss for TEN (0-6) and that pick we get from them is looking like a top 40 overall pick.

I thought the snow was the biggest factor that contributed to and accentuated our huge win. Without it, I felt that the margin wouldn't be so great.

The problem with brady has been hitting open players with the deep throw, so in that aspect today was very encouraging.

Maybe not - but Brady played just over a half and threw 6 TDs. This is another NFL team they were playing, not some DIII team, they were on pace to win this game 90-0 if they had left all their stars in. Sure, the Titans suck right now, but the Colts didn't have 45 points at halftime last week against the same team. It was an epic blowout.

I agree with everything you said. BUT...

I disagree that Maroney's long run was a huge hole. The endzone camera had the best look at it. That run was a direct result of Maroney being patient with his blocking and he squeezed through there at the right time. That was a great patient run by Maroney.

Likely true in the statistical sense as Brady will not have the defenses he enjoyed that year, but ability-wise I disagree. As he is not a scrambling QB who suffered a knee injury, I see no reason why he cannot fix his mechanics and hit open receivers as he was able to in the past.

With that said, I would take this as a happy sign he is improving but not that he is back to 2007 form. His problem has been overthrowing receivers badly, and there is no way he could do that in those winds yesterday. I would be surprised if the problem is there one week and gone the next.

To me, Brady's half is great but means as much as when Favre last year had all those TD's in a half for the Jets.... not much. The Titans had no idea how to run in the snow on top of playing two rookie corners.

Maroney has arrived folks. He was mad at Patriot Nation for booing at him too.

Isn't this what he always does though? Doesn't see anything so hesitates/waits, and if a ginormous hole doesn't open up he gets negative yards a fourth of the time. It just so happened that on that occasion, a fifteen foot hole opened up for him. Nobody is disputing that he's fast as hell.

He usually arrives for a game or 2 in a season ;)

I mean, I like the guy, but he's inconsistent, unless he's getting the ball in space.

Were you watching this game? The hole was so small he had to basically side step through it, but once he got through that no one was going to touch him, but that is where he is most dangerous anyway.

I don't think I have ever seen him run with such determination.
  13. Isn't it amazing how one can join "elite" status beating the dregs of the NFL?

Just ask goober the younger, Ray Ray, and Donovan.

Good to TB hit the long ball.

However, the TB problems have been on the road. Hopefully, Tampa can help solve this problem.

Put it in the books and move on, I agree...

But you have to ask yourself why the Titans had no idea how to run in the snow. There were a lot of Pats on the field who don't have a lot of experience in the snow either, but that didn't seem to matter. At least not to the tune of 59-0! Brady said that the snow may have been an advantage to our offense, but you have to wonder why the same wasn't true for the Titans'. Why did our defense play so much better - not just better but in another universe better. These were two unevenly matched NFL teams playing in the same conditions.

The Patriots could take this game and probably next week and launch to the top of the league again despite whether or not ESPN wants them to. This was the biggest demolition of an NFL team I have ever seen. The Patriots prolly wouldn't win 59-0 on a dry field, but a 28-0 shutout would have been probable at this point. The Pats-Titans looked like Williams vs. USC.

Oh, and BTW, Jeff Fisher should resign after that mess.

Just about Maroney - you can't under-estimate what a good game he had yesterday. I said it elsewhere, the Titans have been poor at many things this season, but stopping the run wasn't one of them.

Their D came into the game averaging just 75 yards a game - They were smashed for roughly 195 yards on about 24 carries. Maroney went for just short of 8 yards a carry, Law Firm for just short of 10 yards per carry.

Totally agree with the op, don't get carried away with this win. A lot of very promising things came out of this game but thats what they are, very promising. A long way to go yet.

It was just such a great week for us though after losing last Sunday.

The week started with a Jets loss and finished that way too and our great win in between. Just so sweeeet. :)

Come on! This is a huge win. After all, we played the #31 pass-defense in the snow, and they played without their corners and without their nickel back.

Belichick plays one game at a time. It was good to see take care of business againt the Home for the Poor and Helpless.

its a shame that the london game is next week! The pats will go from ne extreme to another. Have to deal with the media circus that is London and if the pitch moves about like it did last year it could be a tough game!
If the pitch does start cutting up and moving about who will it suit better the pats or the buccs?

Why do people feel compelled to keep everyone's emotions in-check? Aren't we all grown-ups and have a capacity to manage our dispositions and reactions accordingly?

Sports are supposed to be an emotional roller-coaster. Why not ride it?
