This guy must be copying the Obama political team's motto of not letting a crisis go to waste.

Grand Mufti urges criminalizing abusing prophets | ArabNews

The real agenda take freedom for the kaffir away. Of course they want the freedom to build mosques around the world but other religions are not to be allowed to practice their religion in Muslim Countries.

Oh yes, let us all complain loudly about someone having the absolute nerve to ask for respect for ALL religions and to compound that indignity by calling for peace and asking that the religious followers of Allah react peacefully and kindly to insults (real or perceived) instead of with bloodshed and violence.

    How dare he??????

40% of Lebanon is Christian and 10% of Egypt is Christian.

The fact this guy and the Egyptian PM think that because their citizens are too sensitive the US should change its laws on freedom of expression is beyond belief.

Christianity and Judaism are openly mocked on the Internet all the time (ever seen the Jesus is a jerk meme? Jesus is a Jerk | Know Your Meme). Of course that's pretty harmless but it's the kinda thing that would cause riots if it was Muhammad.

How much do you want to bet that if Great Moolah Obama gets 4 more years that he fiddles with the 1st amendment to make criticizing religion a crime?

And this guy is telling his people pretty much that very thing - that it's disgusting and it's hurtful but, in the end, it's harmless.

I just fail to see how anyone can complain about an actual voice of reason asking his followers to be peaceful, to be fair and to understand that a film or a video does not speak ill of them or their God - but only of the maker of the film.

I honestly don't know where 13 came up with the rest of his stuff - none of that is in the cited article. They may or may not be true - but whatever they are, they are not part of this particular story.

He's also saying that the international community should be subject to the laws of Islam.

No country should be forced to change their laws because another country is too sensitive.

He's also including all gods - not just Allah.

No, they shouldn't...and I'm sure he doesn't expect that they will....people often ask for things they know they won't get. Point is, there's really no harm in asking, is there?

That being said, I am sure there are Christians and Jews here who would not object to ridiculing Jesus or Moses becoming a crime.

He only mentioned people who are considered prophets in Islam.

I'm sure your last point is correct, but it doesn't make the Grand Mufti any less wrong.

OT: What did Mapplethorpe do, aside from sinning in the views of Christians (who supposedly view all men as sinners -- though I guess Mapplethorpe falls into that unspoken category of special sinners)?

As for Serrano, I'm pretty sure he was Catholic...

edit: way OT -- btw, Mapplethorpe was actually a very talented photographer. Check out his photos of flowers, for example, as that's something that shouldn't offend anybody -- many are stunning. Some examples are here:

So true just like with fascism, it didn't matter than Mussolini got the trains running on time and Hitler lowered the unemployment rate.....

I ignore the words of people who goals is to impose tyranny glad you noticed that.

I wouldn't define it as hate just a rational response to an enemy who is a threat to our existence.

It seems you ignore anything that you disagree with.

So all Muslims are a threat to our existance, is that it?

It doesn't matter what they say or do - if they act peaceful or call for peace they're lying and if they riot in the streets they're evil.

Good enough...I'm done talking to you about it.

NJ Egyptian Muslims, Coptics show of unity - WSJ.com

    Good Copt, bad Copt?

You can play that game all day long on every side. Fact is, most people want to live and let others live. Learn it, live it, love it. Extremists and fascists on every side, in every religion, want hate. The vast majority want to live, raise their kids, see them have better lives, love who they want, worship as they want, and not mess with others.

So some buttholes did the "let's shoot grenades at diplomats" routine. Wheeee, now we should be as belligerant as possible, and drag in the 99% of people who just want to live their lives. Yes, yes, that's what we should do... even though the government of Libya is actively pursuing the perpetrators, and the government of Egypt, even if slugglishly, came around.

This is a big moment, geniuses. The voices in the Arab Spring were all over the map... but for the first time in my life I heard many voices talking about living a free life, not a life controlled by a "better" religion or autocrat.

Here's a tip from the Obama files... when you want to kick some butt, "first you have to know whose butt to kick."

I am not religious, I have no place in my life for religion. I do not begrudge others their beliefs, but it is not for me.

But, I have noticed that in these forums that anytime someone says anything about Muslims in connection to terrorism, then someone else is quick to reply that it is not Muslims or Islam, but just a faction of the religion that are bad.

I agree with that. But, when someone points out Christianity's past monstrosities, such as the Spanish Inquisition or the Crusades they always refer to it as Christianity's sins or Christian sins. Seems a little hypocritical to call out a whole religions people for one thing while segregating another into good and bad.

Or, maybe they truly are so blind as to believe that all Christians supported those actions (even though most were just innocent people trying to live a good life and never even knew of the actions).

Oh well, double standards gotta have them and gotta love them.

The Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, has a different view, if anything the Grand Mufti is more like the highest ranking cardinal.. not the pope as previously claimed.

An issue is trying to make familiar, christian terms fit muslim tradition..
