Sort of a lack subtlety there, huh. Why didn't they say, Gore burned through enough energy in a year to power 20 average American households? I think the author's distortion discredits him. True, even 20 American households is a lot, but I would wager, BF, that there's a correlation between wealth and energy usage. You probably use more energy that the person who lives in a trailer home, for instance. Perhaps a more progressive tax structure would even things out? :)

Maybe he should live in a smaller house. He and his people want me to drive a smaller car, right ? Well . . .

Did you have to go to school to learn to be this much of an apologist?

    Here...chew on this

    http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/gorehome.asp

    They brand it as "true".

Oh, and btw--George W. Bush built a very modest house, uses geothermal energy, collects rainwater and has a landscape fitting the area. He used recycled materials and cast offs (the local quarry sells off the stone it can't use for whatever reason).

    But Gore's a true blue environmentalist...he cares.

And taxes...we need more friggin taxes...

Maybe he SAVES energy by having environmental conferences at his house...? He could have these guests stay over and actually be saving energy vs hosting them at large hotels:cool:

probably not, but we don't know.

woah, that does look bad. How can he rationalize that house? He may have a very good explanation, but I'd have to see it.

    Maybe he's a caring hypocrate:p

Did you miss my point? Did you not understand my objection? Did they actually fool you with their wording? Perhaps they should have said, Gore uses enough power in a year to light up 1,000,000 homes for a minute. That would be even more striking. But, unlike you and BF, I'm not against the wealthy. If you have the money, try to conserve, but enjoy the luxuries you can afford. Sure, I believe in a progressive income tax, but unlike you and BF I'm not against people having different standards of living.

I just said he's a hypocrite not that he should be arrested or have his house taken away. He's a hypocrite. That's all. I'm a big believer in "you either give a crap or you don't" and, clearly, Gore doesn't give a crap about his energy usage.

    What?

The point is that Mr Enviro-boy himself, Mr. Earth in the Balance, Mr. We've Got Ten Years to Live, uses a huge amount of energy that's not neccessary. This has been proven true by Snopes the urban myth debunker. He wants me to drive a shoebox on a rollerskate, but he consumes more energy in a month than I do for a year. That makes him a hypocrite. Taxes have nothing to do with it.

He wants to burn it, he can. He can buy his own personal oil well and refinery--I don't give a rats left nut. But what he can't do is suck down all that energy while telling me I need to freeze in the winter, have no fans in the summer, and drive a roller skate.

    That's the point.

He's making millions peddling this crap, but he can't even put his money where his mouth is. No little solar cell on the Gore family roof-top (at least not then). Any windmills on his property?

And you --and everyone else around here--can stop putting words in my mouth about any time. You did it to BF the other night, and you're doing it to me now and it's unacceptable.

Remember The Price's diatribe of "we can drive SUVs, we can't eat as much as we want, we can't set our thermostats to 72 all day" ? Last night with Algore on stage he should have tried the "we can't live in 10,000 square foot houses".

Where did I get that number from ?

    From this :

    http://www.snopes.com/politics/bush/house.asp

comparison of Algore the hypocrite and our sitting President's houses.

Actually, he has now made his house energy efficient, but he should have done it a long time ago. At any rate, the richer you are the more energy you're going to use. Maybe socialism is the solution?

Why is that? I know some people who're filthy stinkin' rich. I mean buy and sell most of us before lunch...and they live in small houses, drive 20 year old cars, no AC, nothing, they just collect art and old books.

One doesn't follow the other. Leo DiCaprio has a lot of money, he puts his money where his mouth is. And the current POTUS...let's not forget his modest house, built to be energy efficient and earth friendly.

Nope. It's his choice. He could live comfortably in a 2,500 sq. ft. house if he chose to. I have no problem with his house - but he's still a hypocrite.

Those people deserve a lot of credit. Gore does deserve credit for his lifestyle, but he deserves credit for his work on the environment. By the same token, a conservative might say the McCain doesn't deserve credit for carrying $200,000+ balances on their credit cards, but deserves credit for calling for a balanced budget. No one's perfect, and no one said Gore is perfect, but his views on global warming are really good.

Hmm. Kinda like fighting Pit Bull's but offsetting it by giving money to the humane society.

His digs are new construction, you make it sound as if he was an energy hog like Gore and modded his house which is not the case. I could care less about how much energy Gore uses, the issue is (and what you refuse to address) that Gore wants to dictate how much energy everyone else uses and he is advocating policies that will make him a billionaire.

IOW he is scamming people with his enviromentalism to line HIS pockets.

LOL...his views are really good so it doesn't matter what he actually does. It doesn't matter if his house wastes energy. It doesn't matter if he cast the deciding vote for corn ethanol, then profited like crazy (and his friends) from it...or how much he makes, telling everyone else how evil they are for driving and having electric lights...his views are good, so it doesn't matter.

And how the hell do you figure that McCain's personal credit card balance has anything to do with Gore being a hypocrite on the environment?
