And this guy runs the NFL? Wow, that is a scary thought. On the same note, King needs to go as well for publishing that. I'm pretty sure that Muslim terrorists don't read Peter King's articles and the one's that have went on to participate in suicide bomb activities, but still: what if King didn't work at Si?

Re: Goodell discusses Classified military info with P. King; King publishes it.

I was expecting this thread to be an overreaction, but after reading the article and seeing they published the exact number of US troops stationed as sentries at an outpost -- after one was just attacked in the area -- is pretty mind-numbingly stupid.

My guess it that that info is removed from his article by the end of the day.

But that is three levels of stupidity at work:

    1. Goodell for telling a media member
    2. King for thinking it was ok to write
    3. King's editors for thinking it is ok to post to the Internet

Pretty irresponsible all the way around ...

That's why I'm here. Who said anything was classified? Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, not their own facts.

How would Goodell know anything about that, anyways?
He's the NFL (crappy) commissioner not
    military leadership.

The assumption is "because he was there", but when you go for a military tour, they show you want they want you to see. You aren't going to be privvy to classified information (which nobody can share with you if you don't have the proper clearance). This is people making sh!t up and seeing if it sticks.

In all fairness, the military may not consider this as classified information and where and how many people are posted is easily observed by anyone with a high powered binoculars within a half mile away. It seems pretty bad though, but I have seen news reports on CNN or other news stations give out similiar information. It could be not a big thing.

Re: Goodell discusses Classified military info with P. King; King publishes it.

The responsibility to protect classified information lies with those trained to know what is classified and what is not, and how to treat information labeled as classified.

If the military showed Goodell classified information without properly informing and educating him first, then the fault lies with them. My take on this is that the information shown was not classified.

You are absolutely correct. Goodell and the entire visiting party were breifed before and debriefed after their visit. Any one thing may not be classiifed, but the compilation of data may make it classified. Bottom line is that it's irresponsible journalism by King and stupidity on Godell's part. He needs to be removed.

What is the classified part? The location? 700 meters from the border? That hardly identifies their exact location. And you dont think the enemies know they are there??

Re: Goodell discusses Classified military info with P. King; King publishes it.

Either something is classified or it isn't, there's no way for two unclassified pieces of information to be automatically classified if combined.

I don't imagine this is a concern for the military. After all, it's against the law to release classified information and if Goodell did it, he could be charged. Otherwise, people on this messageboard need to find a better use for their time. This is Tomase-quality.

This is a great example of a long trend of poor judgment and lack of reasoning or sense from Roger Goodell.

"FOB Tillman, a base just 700 meters from the Pakistan border, and a base close to -- and very similar to -- the one that was attacked by Taliban extremists early Sunday morning, resulting in the deaths of nine American soldiers.

This Tillman base, as with many others in the Afghan war, is invented and built to gain a foothold in an eastern area of the country that sees an attempted daily influx of Taliban. The American troops must intercept the Pakistanis, then determine whether they're either harmless (Bedouin tribesman, perhaps, or simple shepherds), or militants invading the country to try to drive out the Americans.

It's not always easy to tell, and it's not always easy to prevent the Taliban from secretly crossing the border and engaging in firefights with the Americans."

Most folks here aren't that old but this is SO reminiscent of Vietam when US Armed Forces were restricted by congressional and administration politics from persuing the enemy cross borders (Cambodia, Laos) and finishing the job. Politicians never learn while the troops never stop bleeding. Thankfully my brother made it back from that debacle. Unfortunately, millions died after we withdrew. My apologies, however inadequate.

    Frakin disgusting.

If terrorists are using Goodell for intelligence all I can say is, "Mission accomplished!"
