Kaczur extension finalized - Reiss' Pieces - Boston.com
I guess it's a good thing that Kaczur and Vince probably don't go up against each other 1 v 1 very much.
Note that Kaczur was going to be a restricted free agent under the uncapped system. Wilfork is unrestricted. Thus, there's a big upside to Wilfork holding out for something big, given his potential upside under an uncapped system. The opposite is true for Kaczur - there is a big downside to the uncapped system, coupled with the downside both face with a potential lock-out. Better to get his money now.
somewhere in New England without even hearing the news, Miguel perks up "I sense a change in the salary cap"
Such is the awesome salary cap awareness of Miguel that he knows when extensions happen before the paperwork reaches the NFL.
 Awesome! I was on the phone when I saw this and it took everything I had not to start laughing.
I thought Kraft made a comment about not resigning players due to the uncertainties of the salary cap.........
I wonder what Vince thought about this.
The full star wars reference might sound a little more ominous
"I felt a great disturbance in the Salary Cap...as if millions of Dollars suddenly cried out in terror...and were suddenly silenced"
Substituting Salary Cap/force and dollars/voices
I guess Mr. kraft was just speaking about mega-huge dollar contracts.
The cap be with you.
It's gonna be interesting how this works out. I can't imagine the Pats resigning all of their marquee FAs next offseason because of Brady's looming contract extension coming up too. Out team will definitely lose some key players next year. I hope our young guys show they can play this year.
The Patriots can afford to re-sign Tom Brady and all their marquee
free agents provided they offset their salaries with 20 undrafted free
agents at minimum salary.
I don't think the Pats are going to love too much talent, at least during the 2010 offseason. Presuming that the NFL is playing without a cap, we will be looking at 2 franchise tags to use, plus players will need 6 years of service to be UFAs.
If my understanding is true, both Wilfork and Seymour can be tagged, should they fail to be extended. Mankins, the remaining free agent whom I would consider a pivotal piece of the team, can be retained one more year at a reasonable RFA salary.
As far as I understand, the Pats will be pretty well protected, at least for the 2010 season.
IIRC, they can also sign their players to long-term contracts and have the bonuses hit in the uncapped year, leaving them at a competitive advantage in future years. Thus, it makes sense to sit on the contracts that require large bonuses. Doesn't work out for Vince, if he gets hurt this year, but would set him up for a larger slice of guaranteed money in a year than they can afford to pay him right now.
........too funny,lifer.well said.
........is this like a dog's ear perking up at the sound of a high-pitched whistle?
Very funny. Glad that I was not drinking anything when I read this. Otherwise, I may spewed the beverage all over my monitor.
1 franchise tag to use.
It will be either a franchise AND a transition tag or two transition tags.
