There's a significant percentage of posters who are willing to pay what it takes to sign AV, up to the franchise number, just over 3 million. There are those who think that that is too much to pay a kicker for one year. Let's detail some scenarios:
Let's assume the CBA has been settled. Let's assume that the Patriots, after signing all draft picks, releasing dead weight (most notably Starks, Poole, Klecko) and signing some TC fodder/PS types and a mid-range CB and WR, have 4 million left under the cap. Would you rather:
1. Sign AV to a two year deal for the 5.5 million it will probably take (say 1.5 million in salary/per and 2.5 million SB)
2. Sign Givens to a four year deal (10 million SB, salary of 1 mill, 1.5 mill, 2 mill, 3 mill)
3. Extend Seymour one year.
