Gilligan stranded with $16 million on Revis Island

Bob Kraft: "The answer to your question is, yes. You fight for me, you get to kill English."

ResDubWhite: "Excellent!"

"Your island? You mean Ireland?"

"Yeah. It's MINE."

Sorry. Meant the Glazers as opposed to United.

Does't that leprehaun looking dude own the Bucs? I guess wasting money ain't a problem for him because he has so much. Revis certainly got his pot of gold.

I think you are think of Shad Khan who owns the Jags.

In 2 years time Schiano will be an assistant coach for the New England Patriots.

Nah. He'll pull a Saban/Petrino and go back to college if he's let go from the Bucs.

Would this not have been part of the discussion between the head coach and the player, before the sign and trade? Why is this coming out now? Would his agent not have brought up the scheme before the trade? It's F'ing ridiculous!!!!

Schiano, "Derelle, we're going to use you mostly in a zone D format instead of man. But, we'll be paying you a cool million a game".

Derelle, "Where do I sign"?

I doubt it. Other than Dean Pees. I can't remember Belichick ever getting a seasoned college coach as his assistant. And Dom Capers was the only former NFL head coach to ever be hired to his staff and that lasted a year.

Belichick likes to hire young guys and grow them through his system.

Dean Pees...sounds like a scatological porn star alias...

Schiano prefers to go zone-heavy in the back end. It's essentially a carbon copy of what he did at Rutgers.

Yes, Revis was wrong to whine to the public. However, I understand his frustration. After playing for Rex, he now plays for someone who wants him to play a college zone defense that the coach was more comfortable from college. This is tough to take from someone who is (or was recently) one of the very best shut down corners in the NFL.

Didn't Belichick teach Shiano enough? Did he miss the lesson on developing plans around the skills of your best players? Did he miss the lesson on not going out and getting a player for $16M a year only to ask him to change his style of defense.

IMHO, this is one the 3 worst coaching blunders that I am aware of so far this year. The other college coach not having a clue about time management has to be another. The third has to be not starting Cousins in Game 2 (he probably should have started Game One). All three teams had some promise this year. At this point, I don't expect any to go to the playoffs.

It should be universally known that great coaches put their players in a position to succeed by taking advantage of their strengths and minimizing their weaknesses. It's about as stupid a business decision you can make to bring in a $16 million per annum investment then not play to Revis' strengths.

Schiano will be out of Tampa pretty quickly if he keeps that up.

Just spit-balling, but is there any chance that Revis just isn't the same after hurting that knee? Maybe Schiano would rather have his $16M CB playing zone rather than having his $16M CB getting burned.

now now now...wait a minute...isn't Revis the consensus "best cornerback" in NFL history?

He is considered by himself and the rest of the league, except Jet fans now, to be the best corner in football.

shouldn't the "best corner " be able to be the best in man AND zone??

seems like an argument borne out of frustration that he is nowhere NEAR a "best" zone corner.

It's not a matter of whether he's good in zone or not. It's that if you have a corner who can shut down half of the field by himself, that's the best way to deploy him. Anything else is just an inefficient use of your resources.

It's like buying a luxury car to bring trash to the dump, or making Gronk a fullback. I bet he'd be pretty good at it, but why on earth would you do that? It's just dumb.

I dunno. When I have a new car I love to drive it everywhere, even to the dump. It doesn't protest that it's too good to go there, and the ride is as smooth as if I am cruising down the highway.
