Gil Brandt : Deals that should get done before deadline

ummmmm, if we're going to trade away 1st round picks, I say we go after the immortal Ed Reed :D

Memo to Gil: The NFL does not function like your fantasy football league. The idea that the Vikings would trade Allen, or that BB would ever approach them with a proposal of that magnitude is ludicrous.

Prediction: The Pats make exactly zero trades before the deadline. Gil must have written this after being over served at his neighborhood bar.

the Vikings would never Trade jared allen for with would pretty much be a high 2th round pick both the pats and saints will be going far in the playoffs but if the Vikings would be willing to part with allen for what will be the 31 or 32th pick in the first round i would jump all over it

Gil, have you been asleep the past 5 years?

Do you not realize how HARD BB worked to get back into position of having 2 1sts and 2 2nds EVERY YEAR? He had to trade Seymour to get the stolen 1st rounder back!! He didnt want to trade Seymour, but he LOVES trading a 1st into next year and getting the free 2nd rounder this year, every year.

there is NO WAY he is giving up a frist for Jared Allen (or anyone).

moron, crap writing.

Of course it will never happen.....but hypothetically...BB trades a 1st (maybe Pats toss in a 5th or a 6th) for Allen plus a Minny 3rd rounder. By the time Allen's contract expires, BB can churn that 3rd rounder into a first with 2 years of draft day trades. In the mean time, the Pats have a difference maker on the D roster. Right now, Wilfork is the only matchup issue for most offenses

Doubt either of these would happen, but Jared Allen is ABSOLUTELY worth a 1st round pick. Are the dissenters KIDDING?

I disagree. If we do this trade, we get Jared Allen, which means a few pressures and sacks that we wouldn't have had otherwise. We lose the pressures and sacks of whoever he replaces on the field. What's the net net of pressures and sacks for half a season?

We also lose a ton of cap space which means that we can't sign at least one, if not two other good players we would have had otherwise, and instead replace them with low round draft picks or minimum salary vets. So depth gets hurt.

And, we lose a first round pick, which in our case is a second and a third round pick, one of whom would have been a starter in a couple of years.

Allen on this team with his current contract is the same philosophy that keeps bad teams bad: star pursuit at all costs with no attention to depth.

You're kidding, right? He's 29, ahs 8.5 sacks this season and is all about football..

a first round pick would be robbery.. And I mean in a good way as a Pats fan.

The guy is a high motor, high IQ, great against the run & football comes first to him.. (Had a drinking problem and his career was no the ropes and straightened things out.)

We have a young defense that could use a guy like this..
