Actually was able to watch most of the game, with the exception of NE's first TD drive.

    * Someone explain to me how Bam Childress is *not* an NFL player. I realize that he is in a numbers crunch, but I have to think that he is better than 10-20 WRs that were on rosters last year.

    * CJ Jones was kicking ass as a return man. Quick acceleration, strong runner.

    * While I missed one drive, Cassell looked pretty good. He seemed to carry himself very well on the field. Even with NY starters in there, he made quick decisions and keeps his head up despite the rush. I hipe he is never needed, but I am more optimistic about him than I was before.

    * Lua my boy. See you next year. Despite all the pub, I don't think you were ready yet anyway.

    * Alexander looked like a man amongst boys out there. He was in on virtually every play.

    * LeKevin continues to look like a solid backup at DE. I kinda wished he looked like a solid backup at NT, but whatever.

    * Woods made a few plays, but I expected more. Everything I heard made it seem as if he was ready to take a big step forward, but I have yet to see it.

    * Of course the only defender of real consequence gets hurt with a frickin minute left in the game. I wouldn't worry too much about Meriweather if it weren't for Wilson's injury. If both of these guys have longer term issues, the FS position is now manned by the triumverate of Sanders/Gay/Andrews.

    * Despite his injury, Meriweather played a good game. I would like to see him disrupting more plays, but he is definitely willing to mix it up.

    * I suppose that it could have been the fact that he was playing with backups at WR and on the OL, but I came away unimpressed with Vinny. Yes, yes, I know he is just the emergency QB, but shouldn't a guy like him look like a worldbeater going against future car wash employees?

    * Goodbye Mills. Hello Rivers.

    * I wouldn't be surprised to see Kight go on IR just to keep him around another year.

As always, I am sure that I forgot something. I welcome your thoughts.

Looking at the stats, Woods seemed to be on fire. 2 sacks. 2 forced fumbles. I didn't get to watch the game so I don't know the exact plays they happened on.

Yep I am pretty sure Marcellus has a roster spot in the palm of his hands.

Will Dante Wesley make the team? I understand he faced a bunch of scrubs tonight but he impressed me none the less.

I wish Bam could make the team but it isn't likely. CJ Jones looked good tonight but again someone who isn't making the roster. Bam as a running back is cool.

Eric Alexander was very good tonight.

I remember one of the sacks/FF, but not the other. Maybe I blacked out or something.

That said, I still see him get blocked regularly by 2nd and 3rd string OTs.

Thank you for mentioning him. Depending on the health of some, he could make the team. He defintiely jumped over James, IMHO.

Good review. As far as you could tell, how bad did the Meriweather injury look? Let's say this was the first quarter against the Jets, would he continue playing?

What do you expect him to get a sack on every play?

If he's getting blocked by the 2nd and 3rd string OTs, where is the DE who is supposed to be taking them out?

I don't think so. He limped off on his own power, but he looked to be in some pain immediately after the play.

You could be on to something. Maybe it is more a function of poor DE play.

He didn't limp off. Looked like he ran off to me.

Wesley played a very good game. He may have played his way onto this team.

Cassel is a fine back up QB.

No, of course not. I just expect a guy who is likely to be the primary backup at OLB to be consistently disruptive against other teams' scrubs. It is too sporatic for my taste.

I saw him limping a little even as he jogged but it appears that he will be OK(thank god).

I taped the game and I just watched that play again to see how Merriweather was hurt. Two important things, no one rolled into his leg, and no one fell directly on his leg. He looked like he hit his ankle on one of his teammates. That's encouraging IMO. If somebody had rolled into his leg or fell on him he wouldn't have been able to jog off the field. If BB sticks to his routine of past years, these guys won't see the field again until Wednesday. Merriweather will have five days to rest and get treatment.

Woods had nine tackles and two sacks. I really don't understand the problem here.

Oswlek makes a good point about Pierre. Woods is thinking a great deal about his assignments, which makes him appear tentative at the snap. As a result, he looks slower on some plays than he really is. You can almost see him running through a mental ID checklist of responsibilities. In some ways this is actually a good sign, in that he trying to process information at an NFL level, and not running around like a chicken with his head cut off. As the game wore on he got more and more comfortable (and the Giants O got less and less professional) and he was in the backfield regularly. Vs the Giants 1st teamers he got ragdolled. Pierre has excellent range and speed, but lacks the lower body ballast/explosion to flex the corner with a hand on his shoulder, or strike a blow to put an OT off balance. Whether he can develop that ability will determine his future. He will get another year to work on his lower body strength, as he appears a bit too high cut. That said, he was one of 4 defensive players who stood out IMO: Wesley, LK Smith, E. Alexander were the others. Meriweather looks OK. He is making good decisions, playing within the scheme, not trying to prove he's a #1 pick. He seems like a trustworthy, smart player who can contribute at FS. Obviously durability is a concern. In slow mo that was quite a blow he took to his lower leg and at first glance it looked like a traumatic fracture. Wouldn't be surprised if the bone was cracked, or the achilles strained, or just the blunt force trauma of a leg whip leaves him hobbled for some time.

He was on the roster all year, wasn't he? But only active one or two game wheres he caught a couple minor passes? If he couldn't crack the active roster last year witht the WRs we had then, he surely won't crack it this year.

I like Bam every preseason, but he lights up the preseason then fades away. Sort of like Patrick Pass was, except Childress doesn't throw the ball on the ground when he gets hit.

Or in Pass' case - when he doesn't get hit. Hurt bad or not I've still never seen another NFL player drop the ball as a reaction to a pulled or torn hamstring.
